In this video, I'm going to show you how to add a Table of Contents in a Google Doc
0:05
Let's get straight into it. So, once you've reached the Google Doc
0:09
the first thing you have to do is insert the table. So, first you have to decide where you want to insert it
0:17
Just click on Insert, that's written on the top left over here
0:22
Then, select the last option, which is Table of Contents. And as you can see, they have three options
0:30
First, is just plain text with the page numbers. The second option is text with dots and then the page number
0:39
And the third option is just links. So, I prefer the first option, so I'll just select that
0:46
And here, what they've said is that anything that we want in our Table of Contents
0:51
we'll have to format it into a heading. So, I'll show you what that means
0:56
Let's say, I want to have the abstract in the Table of Contents
1:00
Then, to do this, I have to select Abstract. After that, click on Format, that's on the top left
1:09
Then, select Paragraph Styles, it's the second option. And over here, just select Heading 1
1:18
And click on Apply Heading 1. So now, this has changed to Heading 1
1:25
And as you can see, the font, font size, all of that has changed
1:29
But later, we can change it back. So, you have to follow the same steps for every topic, which you want in your Table of Contents
1:38
So, I'll quickly do it. And now it's done
1:50
I've applied titles to everything which I want in this table. So now, all I have to do is refresh this
1:57
So, if I just click on it, then as you can see, there's a refresh button over here
2:04
And if I click on it, over here, every title which I formatted to Heading 1 has come
2:12
So, they've given the title and the page number. And now, let's say, someone wants to go to the Research part
2:19
So, all I have to do is click on Research. Click on this
2:23
And as you can see, it's taken them to the Research page
2:27
And like I mentioned earlier, we can change the font, font size and style of all these headings
2:33
It's really simple. Just select one heading. So, I'll select this one
2:39
Then, I'll change the font, font size for this. So, let's say, I want all headings to be like this
2:48
Then, I'll just select this. After that, go to Format. Then, Paragraph Styles
2:56
Over here, select Heading 1. And click on Update Heading 1 to Match
3:02
And once we do this, all of the heading 1s which we just formatted a few minutes back
3:08
will change to this style. So, this is basically how it works
3:13

That's it for today. Goodbye
