So I want to show you one of the coolest features for your iPhone if you've upgraded to iOS 15
0:08
It's called Live Text and it will let you pull text off any photo
0:12
So let's get started. Here's an example of a situation that you might have
0:17
Someone handed you a hard copy of a document without a digital copy, so now you have to
0:23
go in and edit that. So what you can do with Live Text is take your camera out, kind of hover your camera
0:31
somewhere where it's pointing to the text, and you'll notice that in the bottom right
0:35
hand side you'll see the Live Text icon pop up. So you'll want to position your camera where you can see this yellow box around the text
0:45
that means that your iPhone camera is able to pick it up and what you'll want to do is
0:50
to take a photo of that. There we go. So I just took a photo and now you'll notice that it's giving me a separate view of just
1:00
the text and the Live Text icon will be highlighted. So from here I can highlight and copy the text and I can open a Google Drive document
1:11
and now I can paste the text directly inside this Google Drive document so I can go through
1:17
and edit this the way that I normally could if I had a digital version
1:22
So it's a great way to take a paper version and immediately transfer it into text
1:32
Now it's more than just text. You can see here is a book
1:36
It is Martin Luther King Day and Live Type will be able to see the title of this book
1:42
and recognize that as text characters and again I can follow the same process of taking
1:47
a photo and copying and pasting the text even though the fonts, the lettering isn't
1:54
similar to how you would typically see the text on a document
1:58
It's a very powerful tool. And you'll also notice that sometimes when I paste it, it's not exactly 100% correct
2:05
but what it does really well again is being able to find just plain text
2:11
So let's say that there's a page inside this book and all I'd have to do again, point my
2:16
camera at the text to where the yellow bars are around there
2:20
I can then just highlight whatever text I want. Maybe I just want this one sentence or I want the whole thing
2:26
It doesn't really matter. I can copy that, open up the notes on my phone and paste it inside
2:33
Now you don't have to take a picture of something in order to use live text
2:38
Here's an example of a text message that someone sent me with a screenshot to a website
2:43
So I can then tap on the screenshot and using live text, I can press on the text, select
2:51
it and copy and paste it into a different program. So again, that's live text that's available on any iOS device, meaning an iPad or iPhone
3:01
that has iOS 15 or greater installed. So thank you for watching this video on how to use live text to extract text
