The first step to using Zoom is to create a free account and you can do this at zoom.us
0:08
After you register, it's going to take you to your main screen
0:13
The first thing you'll want to do is schedule the meeting. After you schedule a meeting, enter all of the information that you see on the screen, including the date and the time
0:25
Remember, this is the free plan, so we have up to a 40 minute time limit if there's three or more participants
0:32
If we go over that time, we can restart the meeting and participants will have to click on the link again to join
0:40
As you scroll down, there may be a few settings that you'll want to turn on
0:44
I'm going to choose this option that says enable waiting room. I'm also going to mute participants upon entry
0:52
And then I'm going to click save. From here, the only information that I really need is going to be this join URL
1:00
I can take this join URL and put this in a Schoology course
1:09
Or I can add it in an email and send this to all of my students
1:15
After I send the link out, I can go to meetings, find my lesson, and choose start
1:23
Zoom should now either install on your computer or open in the browser
1:29
From here, I want to join with computer audio. Right now, you'll see at the bottom, my audio is on as the green levels are moving
1:40
My video has not started yet. If I want to start my video, I can click on that button
1:48
Right now, my video is starting. I'm just going to turn it off
1:54
So I'm ready for participants to join my class. So I started my lesson and I can see at the bottom I have two students in the waiting room
2:06
Here are my two students. Now remember, they won't be admitted until I select this button
2:12
And before I admit them, I just want to turn on one setting. It's right here at the bottom that says more
2:21
I'm going to turn off the ability for participants to unmute themselves
2:26
This way, I don't want to be interrupted during my lesson. So I think I should be all set. I'm going to admit my two students
2:35
So my lesson has now started. And you'll notice on the side, I'm the only one with the ability to speak
2:42
If I want to unmute someone's microphone, I can just select their name and choose unmute
2:51
Or I can unmute everyone at once by scrolling to the bottom and checking unmute all
2:58
Let's go over a few of the features. At the bottom, you'll notice a chat window where I can send a message to either one person or everyone in the chat
3:08
This can be a good way to have a side conversation during a lesson
3:12
But if I don't want this, one of the things I can do is select this button and choose no one
3:19
This essentially will disable the chat. If I'm in host only, this will allow me to send a message to the entire group or to upload a file that everyone else in this meeting can download
3:33
Another feature I like is this one, share screen. This will allow me to share my screen and it's perfect for lessons
3:41
So I can select share screen and then I can choose the screen that I want to share
3:50
Right now, I'm sharing my screen so I can show my Schoology course
3:54
This is what other people are viewing. Up at the top, it gives me some options that I can select such as the ability to annotate
4:03
I can also use this laser pointer which is known as the spotlight or clear anything off by just selecting clear
4:12
Once I'm done, I can select stop share. Another option which might be helpful at the bottom is this ability to record any lesson
4:20
By selecting record, a local copy of this video will be recorded on my computer and all participants will know that they're being recorded
4:29
To stop the recording, just press stop. And as soon as I leave the meeting, that recording will be saved
4:35
To leave the meeting, just close out of your window and choose end meeting for all
4:42
Once you end the meeting, locate the Zoom folder inside your documents and you should be able to find both a video and audio copy of the lesson
