So there's been a lot in the news about Zoom and some things like security
0:04
issues and Zoom bombing that make it a little bit scary to use the platform
0:09
What I want to do now is show you how you can lock down some of the settings
0:13
if you are going to be using Zoom. The first thing you'll want to do is find
0:18
the settings tab. We're just going to go through and identify some of the
0:25
settings that you may want to adjust to keep your Zoom meeting as secure as possible
0:33
The first one is this one, join before the host. We're going to leave that in the off position. What this means is that the meeting won't start until you as
0:41
the host start it. As you scroll down another one that you
0:44
may want to enable is mute participants upon entry. This way when your participants first come into your Zoom meeting
0:52
they'll be muted and you as the host can decide who you want to speak and who you
0:56
don't want to speak. The chat is another one that you may want to consider to leave on or maybe
1:06
leave that off. For this one I'm going to leave it on but you'll notice there's a few things underneath that will help me
1:12
configure the chat to make it more secure. So one of the things I'm going to do is prevent participants from saving the chat
1:18
Another thing that I'm going to do is I'm going to turn off the private
1:22
chatting. This will allow me to send messages but it won't let my participants send messages to each other
1:30
I'm also going to turn off the ability to automatically save chats
1:35
Some other things that you may want to leave on is this option to play a sound
1:39
You as the host will hear it when someone enters. And then another setting that I'm going to turn off is file transfer
1:48
There's a really important setting and that is screen sharing. I'm going to leave that on but you'll notice that at the bottom
1:55
I'm going to specify that me as the host I'm the only one that can share my
2:00
screen. So you won't have to worry about zoom bombing in terms of someone taking their screen and projecting it
2:06
for everyone as long as you turn screen sharing on and restrict it only
2:09
the host. Or if you don't want to share your screen you may just leave it off entirely. Some other options at the bottom you can see
2:16
annotation and whiteboard if you don't want your participants to have access to
2:20
any writing tools that may distract your other students in the class. You can
2:24
just leave those settings off. Another setting that you want to leave
2:28
off is this one allow removed participants to rejoin. If you remove someone from the meeting you don't want them to have the option
2:34
to then rejoin your meeting. So leave that setting off. And one
2:38
less setting that I'm going to strongly recommend is the waiting room. You're going to turn that on and this way before joining your
2:45
meeting you as the host will have to enable them to come in. So I'll leave
2:49
that setting on. And now we're ready to go in and set up our meeting. You can start your meeting by going to
2:55
schedule a meeting. One of the things that you're going to want to do is
2:59
you're going to check this box. You will want to require a password. You'll have
3:03
the link where participants can click on the link and it will take them to the meeting. But now you're going to require a
3:08
specific password as well. We're going to leave this option at the bottom that says enable before host. We're going to keep that
3:14
off. And we will keep mute participants upon entry. And yes we are going to
3:18
enable the waiting room. So I think we're all set. So now for participants to join my meeting all they have to do is click on
3:24
this link. It's going to prompt them to then enter this password. It's going to put them in the waiting room where they will wait
3:31
until I start the meeting. So these are great settings that you can enable to make sure that your Zoom meeting is as secure as possible
