We all know that students love to draw and love animation
0:04
So this is a really cool website that I found on Twitter that's going to allow you to animate
0:10
student drawings. It's called Animated Drawings. The website is sketch.metademolab.com and what you can do is take a drawing by your
0:21
child or your students, upload it, and then actually animate it and have their drawings
0:26
and illustrations come to life. Now there's a few things that you should know about this
0:30
This is presented by Meta AI Research. It's the same company that owns Facebook, but you won't need a Facebook account to use this
0:39
There's no logins at all. And anything that's uploaded is not personally identifiable
0:44
There's no way to link the student authors with the actual drawings uploaded
0:48
The first thing you'll need is a drawing of one character where the arms and the legs
0:53
don't overlap. You want to make sure that the character is drawn on a white piece of paper without
0:57
lines or tears or any other drawings around it. And you also want to make sure that the drawing is well lit and that there's not shadows
1:05
And then finally, just make sure that there's no identifiable information or offensive content
1:10
Here's the photo that I'm going to use. I took this photo and I need to find one character
1:15
So I'm going to use this character at the bottom. So to do that, I'm just going to crop this picture just to focus on this one character
1:24
Now I've done the demo before. So one of the things that you want to make sure is that your character doesn't have any
1:31
of this other stuff around it. So I'm just going to edit this photo to get that out
1:35
And it kind of looks like this. Now I'm just going to open the website, sketch.meta.demolab, and I'm going to get started
1:43
I'm going to upload my photo and then click next. From here, it's just a matter of cropping your character
1:50
I already have mine set. I'm then going to click the next button
1:53
This is just letting me know that they were able to separate my character from the background
1:58
Now here's the next part. It just wants to make sure that they're separating my character from the background
2:03
Now you'll notice this area in between the arm is not highlighted
2:07
So I'm just going to use the eraser tool and erase that so the arms will be able to move
2:18
This is just a matter of finding the joints for the individual character
2:21
Here are the eyes. And now there it is. There's my animation that the site was able to draw up
2:32
You can see that there's several different poses that you can use. Here's a wave
2:39
There's a dance. Lots of different options that you can use to take an individual drawing and bring it
2:46
to life. Now once you're finished, it does give you the option to share this in a few different places
2:52
It will, however, not let you download a video copy or like a GIF of this
2:57
So if this is something that you want, you'll probably have to do a screen recording
3:03
So again, the website is called Animated Drawings. It's a product of the Meadow Demo Lab
3:08
It's something that you may want to check out if you or children in your life love to
3:12
draw and get excited to see their drawings animated. So let me know what you think about animated drawings
