So, in this quick video, I'm going to show you how your students can automatically transcribe
0:05
everything said in an online lesson. So there is a way that students can transcribe everything that the online instructor might
0:18
be saying. This way, at the end of the lesson, they'll have the complete transcript and they can
0:23
go through and search for certain parts. So here's how it works
0:28
For one, students will obviously have to be connected to a Zoom meeting
0:32
The next step will be for them to turn up their volume
0:37
Not too high, but high enough that the microphone is going to be able to pick up the sound from
0:42
the speakers. The next thing they'll need is either Microsoft Word or Google Docs
0:49
So let's start with Word. When the teacher begins to talk and the student wants to transcribe, all they'll have to do
0:55
is select Dictate. Hello, class, and welcome to your online lesson. By using the Word Dictation feature, you can automatically transcribe everything that your
1:09
professor says. Now let's take a look and see how this works with Google Docs
1:14
Again, when a student is connected to the meeting, they just have to select the voice
1:18
typing microphone for Google Docs to dictate everything that's said in their online meeting
1:24
Good morning, class. Right now, I am using Google Docs' voice typing feature to transcribe everything that is being
1:34
said by the teacher in the lesson, period. One thing to keep in mind is that when you have Word or Google Docs listening for the
1:43
transcription, it's actually listening to the audio from your speakers. It's not actually listening to the system audio, which means that you'll have to make
1:51
sure that the sound is at a decent level in order for your computer's microphone to pick
1:57
up the sound. Now, the nice thing is, is that once the lesson is done or when the student stops recording
2:03
after the lesson, they'll have a complete transcription of what the professor said
2:08
And if they want to look for a particular part of their lesson, they can just use the
2:14
find feature, in this case, Control-F. I can just type something like video, and it's going
2:20
to automatically find the parts of that lesson where that term was used
2:26
So again, just know that as a student, there is an option for you to record a transcription
2:31
of an online lecture. And also know that if you're a professor, there is a way that students can transcribe
2:38
everything that you say using this method. So, just be extra careful with what you say
2:46
So hopefully, this video has been a helpful way to show you or your students how they
2:52
can take notes automatically using either Word or Google Docs. Let me know what you think about this method
