US, Phoenix: Phoenix Stabbing Suspect Arrested After Hours Long SWAT Standoff.

Phoenix, United States - June 16, 2026 06/15/2026 11:44 p.m. GMT-0700 PHOENIX, Ariz. – Officers with the Phoenix Police Department and firefighters with the Phoenix Fire Department responded to reports of a stabbing at the Valley Metro Thomas/Central Avenue light rail station at 11:44 p.m. Monday. Upon arrival, officers located a security guard on the station platform who had been stabbed. The guard was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition. Officers began searching the area following witness descriptions of the assailant. Officers located a female suspect matching the description, holding a large knife on the top floor of the Saint Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center parking garage. Due to the proximity to the hospital, a shelter-in-place order was issued. Officers attempted to communicate with the suspect using a public address system from a police helicopter, urging her to comply and surrender to officers. The suspect refused to comply and began hanging off the edge of the parking garage while drinking alcohol. Officers from the Phoenix Police Department's Special Assignments Unit arrived and began devising a plan to safely take the woman into custody. After a standoff lasting several hours, Special Assignments Unit officers deployed a flashbang grenade before charging the suspect and apprehending her at approximately 3:20 a.m. Tuesday.
