US, Phoenix: Phoenix Two In Custody After Lengthy Stolen Vehicle Chase.

Phoenix, United States - June 05, 2026 06/05/2026 01:15 am GMT-0700 PHOENIX, Ariz. – According to Phoenix police at the scene, officers observed a Hyundai sedan traveling at a high rate of speed on the southbound I-17 near Buckeye Road. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle refused to yield and felony flight was established. Officers later learned that the sedan was recently stolen. The Phoenix Police Department helicopter and Phoenix Police Tactical Support Bureau units responded to assist. The Phoenix Police Department helicopter quickly located the sedan. With air resources overhead, a tactical surveillance operation was initiated, allowing unmarked Tactical Support Bureau units to follow the vehicle at a safe distance while the police helicopter tracked the suspect from above. The suspect led officers west along Durango Street from the I-17 before fleeing north on 35th Avenue. The suspect later entered the I-10, fleeing westbound. Officers followed the vehicle west for several miles through multiple West Valley cities. The suspect then exited the westbound I-10 at the southbound 303 off-ramp, conducted a U-turn, and entered the I-10 traveling eastbound. The suspect led officers back to the City of Phoenix and exited the I-10 near 35th Avenue. The suspect fled east through a residential neighborhood near 35th Avenue and Roosevelt Street. The vehicle then came to a stop near 35th Avenue and Moreland Street. A male driver and male passenger quickly fled from the vehicle on foot, entering the nearby JB Sutton Elementary School property. Ground units quickly established a perimeter around the school property while the helicopter continued to track the suspects. Both suspects were apprehended by officers a short time later.
