Jun 30, 2026
Phoenix, United States - June 30, 2026 06/30/2026 02:30 am GMT-0700 PHOENIX, Ariz. – According to initial unconfirmed information gathered at the scene, officers with the Phoenix Police Department attempted to initiate a traffic stop on an Audi hatchback in the area of 40th Street and McDowell Road around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. The initial reason for the stop has not yet been confirmed. As officers attempted to pull the Audi over, it fled from officers, and felony flight was established. Ground units fell back as the Phoenix Police Department’s helicopter “Firebird” arrived overhead and began tracking the vehicle's movements as members of the Phoenix Police Department’s Tactical Support Bureau began converging on the area. Firebird tracked the car as it traveled at high rates of speed, crisscrossing freeways across Phoenix and Tempe with its headlights off. Eventually, the car began traveling eastbound in the 4200 block of East University Drive, at which point Tactical Support Bureau officers deployed a Grappler Police Bumper on the car, immobilizing it. The male driver was taken into custody before being evaluated by firefighters for minor injuries.
