US, Phoenix: Mesa Trooper Stops Wrong-Way Driver On Loop 202.

Phoenix, United States - September 11, 2026 09/11/2026 03:16 am GMT-0700 MESA, Ariz. – Troopers with the Arizona Department of Public Safety responded to the Red Mountain Loop 202 near Gilbert Road around 3:15 a.m. Friday to reports of a wrong-way driver. Troopers received reports that a silver Chevy Trax was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the Loop 202. Camera operators with the Highway Patrol Traffic Operations Center acquired a visual of the Chevy continuing to travel eastbound in the westbound lanes in the HOV lane. Eventually, as the Chevy approached the Greenfield Road overpass, a trooper positioned himself in front of the vehicle and blocked it from continuing. The car stopped, and troopers detained the male driver. The vehicle was moved to the shoulder, where troopers conducted a series of field sobriety tests before ultimately arresting the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence.
