Washington, United States - September 21, 2026 Deputies rescued a man from a burning SUV after a police chase ended with the vehicle crashing into a fence and a tractor on September 21. The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office said the incident began around 10:30 p.m. when deputies spotted a driver traveling 20 mph over the speed limit on Highway 104 in Poulsbo. Instead of stopping, the driver sped away, reaching speeds of up to 111 mph. Deputies eventually lost sight of the SUV but soon found tire tracks on Miller Bay Road NE. The driver had crashed through a fence and struck a tractor in a yard before the SUV caught fire, according to the sheriff’s office. Body camera footage shows smoke filling the area as the trapped man yelled for help. A Kitsap County deputy worked to pull him from the burning SUV while a Port Gamble sergeant used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames. The man was airlifted to a hospital because of the extent of his injuries. The sheriff’s office said he could face charges for attempting to elude an officer and reckless driving after he recovers.
