Washington, United States - July 08, 2026 A motorcycle pursuit ended with a rider jumping into a lake while trying to escape from police after a speeding violation on State Route 9. Dashcam footage shows a Washington State Patrol trooper stopping the motorcycle after it was traveling more than 20 mph over the speed limit. The rider then fled along a rural two-lane road surrounded by trees, fences, and homes. During the chase, the motorcycle briefly moved onto a sidewalk in an attempt to get away. The bike later appeared to have mechanical problems, with the rider using his feet to push and move it forward. The motorcycle eventually stopped, and the rider abandoned it before running through wooded residential property toward a body of water. He jumped into the lake, creating a large splash as troopers continued the pursuit on foot. Troopers pulled the suspect from the water and placed him in handcuffs. On-screen text confirmed the arrest and that the suspect was booked into jail. "What started as a speeding violation ended with a stolen motorcycle, a failed getaway, a foot pursuit and an arrest." The motorcycle was later determined to be stolen. The suspect was booked into Skagit County Jail pending charges.
