Los Angeles, United States - July 09, 2026 07/09/2026 01:00 am GMT-0700 EL MONTE, Calif. – California Highway Patrol was in pursuit of a Chevrolet SUV in Pomona when the vehicle eluded officers southbound on Garey Avenue at Grand Avenue. The California Highway Patrol, along with a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department airship, utilized an Automatic License Plate Reader (ALPR) to track the vehicle through Industry, La Puente, and Baldwin Park. Officers eventually located the SUV as it entered the southbound 605 Freeway from Ramona Boulevard in Baldwin Park. The suspect continued southbound on the 605 before transitioning to the westbound 10 Freeway. The vehicle came to a stop on the westbound 10 Freeway, and the suspect jumped approximately 30 feet down into the San Gabriel River in an attempt to evade capture. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department airship managed to track the suspect, who was seen crawling southbound in the riverbed, possibly injured from the fall. California Highway Patrol officers accessed the riverbed and took the suspect into custody. The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded and transported the suspect to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the fall. As of now, it remains unclear why the suspect fled. No officers or members of the public were injured during the pursuit.
