Los Angeles, United States - May 04, 2026 05/04/2026 12:00 am GMT-0700 BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – A dramatic hours-long standoff involving an armed suspect barricaded inside a pickup truck — and allegedly holding a hostage — ended shortly after midnight Monday with the suspect taken into custody, authorities said. According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the suspect was wanted in connection with the attempted murder of a peace officer and was believed to be armed during the incident in the 8800 block of Burton Way. The situation began early Sunday morning when deputies attempted a traffic stop, during which the suspect allegedly struck a deputy and fled. The deputy was taken to a hospital and later released. Hours later, the suspect was located by the Beverly Hills Police Department, leading to a pursuit that ended in a crash near Burton Way and Robertson Boulevard. The suspect then barricaded inside the vehicle, prompting a large tactical response and prolonged negotiations. Authorities said the hostage managed to escape the vehicle shortly before 11 p.m., significantly shifting the focus of the operation. After several more hours of negotiations, the standoff concluded shortly after midnight when the suspect was taken into custody. No additional injuries were immediately reported. The investigation remains ongoing.
