The pursuit began around 1:30 a.m. in Oildale and continued southbound on Airport Drive. Multiple occupants were inside the vehicle, and initial information included a mention of a firearm during the incident. After the crash, a person was seen on the ground near the bus stop receiving CPR from police officers. The victim was later pronounced dead. Witnesses at the scene claimed the person killed was a bystander who had been sleeping on the bench, though that information has not been confirmed. Multiple suspects fled from the vehicle following the crash and were later detained. The Kern County Fire Department responded and extinguished a fire in the engine compartment of the vehicle. The Bakersfield Police Department and California Highway Patrol were on scene.
