Canada: Rider Pulls Wheelie In Front Of Highway Patrol Then Loses Motorcycle.

Squamish, Canada - July 18, 2026 A 20-year-old motorcycle rider lost his motorcycle and licence after performing a stunt wheelie on Highway 99 near Furry Creek while unaware that BC Highway Patrol was watching. On July 18, 2026, a police laser reading showed a blue Suzuki motorcycle traveling at 146 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. A BC Highway Patrol motorcycle moved within a few metres of the rider to record the temporary licence plate number and find a safe location for a traffic stop. Because the motorcycle did not have required mirrors, the rider did not see police behind him. Instead of riding cautiously, he performed a stunt wheelie and began weaving through traffic. "Once the motorcyclist realized that he was being pulled over by police, he was fully cooperative. He was not trying to flee; he was simply unaware that he was being watched," said Sergeant Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. The rider had a valid Class 8 motorcycle learner licence but had recently completed a previous driving prohibition. He was issued tickets for excessive speed over 60 km/h and driving without due care and attention for stunting. The motorcycle received a seven-day impound for excessive speeding, with towing and impound costs paid by the rider. He also faces at least three years of high-risk driver premiums and increased insurance costs totaling more than $2,800. BC Highway Patrol also sent a high-risk driving report to the BC Superintendent of Motor Vehicles, who issued the motorcyclist another six-month driving prohibition. "Speeding and dangerous driving are serious concerns on the Sea to Sky. We will do everything we can to keep drivers safe and that means delivering real legal consequences," said Sergeant McLaughlin.
