Sep 15, 2026
Dayton, United States - September 03, 2026 Around 11:45 p.m. on September 3, Dayton officers were working a crash at West Third Street and Gettysburg Avenue when a Toyota SUV drove through the blocked intersection, triggering a short pursuit. Police said the driver ran into a backyard before circling back and stealing a Dayton police cruiser, striking another cruiser while fleeing. A second pursuit lasted about two minutes before the stolen cruiser crashed through a house in the 2300 block of Greenway Street near Leland Avenue. Officers entered the wrecked home and called for anyone inside. A woman answered that she was okay, and officers brought her out through the debris. Two occupants were pulled from the house and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Police said the suspect attacked an officer, tried to take his gun and bit him while resisting. Seven officers were injured, with six treated and released. After the arrest, police linked the suspect to a Miami Township homicide and a Moraine robbery involving the Toyota. Montgomery County later identified him as 27-year-old Tywon Dashawn Stephens, and a grand jury added murder and other counts.
