Los Angeles, United States - August 22, 2026 08/21/2026 08:54 pm GMT-0700 ATHENS, Calif. – Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies responded to Los Angeles Southwest College Friday night following reports of shots fired during a high school football game. The incident was reported shortly before 9 p.m. at the college, located at 1600 W. Imperial Highway near Western Avenue in South Los Angeles. Deputies shut down traffic in the surrounding area while searching the campus and nearby streets for a possible suspect. Authorities initially reported no shooting victims. Around 9:25 p.m., a younger female was transported from the scene in unknown condition and was reportedly awake and speaking with deputies. It was not immediately clear whether she had been struck by gunfire or was injured as people fled after the reported shots. Students and spectators were evacuated north toward Imperial Highway as deputies placed the area on lockdown and continued clearing the campus. A witness at the scene said they had heard that a shooting might occur and was inside a restroom when the incident unfolded. The witness reported hearing shots before being evacuated to a parking lot. The football game between San Pedro High School and King/Drew Magnet High School was underway at the Los Angeles Southwest College football field when the reported gunfire occurred. The possible suspect was believed to have fled south of the campus and remained outstanding as of about 9:25 p.m. No suspect description was immediately available. The investigation remained ongoing Friday night.
