US, Bakersfield: Bakersfield 1 Dead After Being Struck by Vehicle on Panorama Drive UPDATED.

Bakersfield, United States - July 10, 2026 07/09/2026 09:19 pm GMT-0700 BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Update from Bakersfield Police Department: On July 9, 2026, at approximately 9:18 pm, the Bakersfield Police Department officers responded to the 1100 block of Panorama Drive regarding a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Upon their arrival, they located the pedestrian down in the roadway suffering from major injuries. Medical aid arrived and pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the scene. The driver of the involved vehicle, an adult female, remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the involved vehicle was traveling west on Panorama Drive when she collided with the pedestrian who was in the roadway and not in a crosswalk. Intoxication was not a factor in the collision. The investigation is ongoing to determine whether speed may have been a factor. The 1100 block of Panorama Drive is an east/west roadway with two lanes of travel in each direction. The eastbound and westbound lanes are divided by double solid yellow lines. The speed limit is 45 miles per hour. The identity of the decedent will be released by the Kern County Coroner’s Office. This is an ongoing investigation. The collision occurred around 9:19 p.m. The vehicle continued traveling to the intersection of Panorama Drive and Bryn Mawr Drive before coming to a stop. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a woman, remained at the scene and was later seen embracing another individual while sitting on the curb. The vehicle sustained extensive damage to its front windshield. It remains unclear whether speed or alcohol played a role in the collision. The Bakersfield Police Department is handling the investigation.
