US, Phoenix: Glendale Suspect Dead After Shooting At SWAT During Hours Long Standoff With Sound On Tape.

Phoenix, United States - August 12, 2026 08/12/2026 12:00 pm GMT-0700 GLENDALE, Ariz. – According to Sergeant Justin Ramsay with the Glendale Police Department's Public Information Office, officers responded to a house in the 7600 block of West Nicolet Avenue around noon Wednesday. Officers were dispatched after a victim reported that her father, who was prohibited from being at the home due to an active order of protection, was seen inside the residence on surveillance cameras. Upon arrival, officers confirmed the suspect was inside the home, following a review of surveillance footage provided by the victim, who is the suspect's daughter. Officers conducted further research and determined the suspect has a documented history concerning the home and was known to carry weapons, as well as possessing body armor and ballistic helmets. When officers attempted to make contact with the suspect at the front door, he barricaded himself inside and refused communication. In response, police obtained a search warrant and called in the Glendale Police Department SWAT team, which attempted to contact the suspect. The suspect opened fire on the SWAT team with a rifle, leading to a gunfight that lasted approximately two hours. During the exchange, two police vehicles were damaged, one SWAT vehicle was rendered inoperable, and two drones were struck by gunfire from the suspect. Police utilized less-lethal munitions and various tactics in an effort to de-escalate the situation, while the neighborhood was placed on lockdown, with residents instructed to shelter in place. The gunfire ultimately ceased at around 6:00 p.m. when officers made entry into the house and found the suspect deceased. Details about the circumstances surrounding the suspect's death, whether it was self-inflicted or otherwise, are currently unknown and will be investigated by the West Valley Incident Response Team, with the Avondale Police Department leading the investigation. One officer sustained a minor injury and was transported to a local emergency room but is expected to recover. A crisis team has been deployed to support the officers involved in the incident.
