US, Los Angeles: Chatsworth Fatal Crash on 118 Freeway.

Los Angeles, United States - September 14, 2026 09/14/2026 01:24 am GMT-0700 CHATSWORTH, LOS ANGELES, Calif. – This morning, a traffic collision occurred on State Route 118 eastbound, near the Topanga Canyon Boulevard off-ramp, involving a white Toyota Prius and a black BMW. Both vehicles deployed all airbags and were blocking all lanes. An initial report indicated that one vehicle was possibly starting to catch fire, prompting a transfer request to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. The California Highway Patrol and local emergency services were quick to respond, with units en route shortly after the incident was reported. The Los Angeles Fire Department requested lane closures to ensure safety and assist in managing the scene. Caltrans was also requested to perform a hard closure of all lanes, though the duration was unknown. At approximately 2:22 a.m., the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane was cleared and reopened to traffic. A coroner was advised to be on standby, but as of the last report, there was no estimated time of arrival. The situation caused a significant traffic backup while first responders worked to manage the scene and clear the road. At least one person was killed in the crash.
