VEHICLES CARRYING PASSENGERS LEAVING HOSPITAL YARD HEADING TO RAFAH BORDER CROSSINGKHAN YOUNIS, GAZA, PALESTINE - MAY 10, 2026: Under the coordination of the World Health Organization, 107 Palestinians from the Gaza Strip headed to the Rafah border crossing on Sunday, May 10, to leave the enclave for medical treatment abroad. The group included 44 sick and injured Palestinians, along with 63 companions, who were unable to receive adequate treatment in Gaza due to Israel’s blockade and ongoing attacks. Patients and their companions first gathered at a field hospital operated by the Palestine Red Crescent Society in western Khan Younis in southern Gaza before being transported by ambulances and buses to the Rafah crossing. The continuing Israeli attacks and the collapse of Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure have forced critically wounded and chronically ill patients to seek treatment outside the territory. Since the ceasefire came into effect, Israeli forces have killed around 850 Palestinians and injured 2,433 others through continued violations involving shelling and gunfire, according to Gaza's Health Ministry. The agreement was reached after two years of Israel's genocidal war on Gaza that began in October 2023, killing over 72,000 people, injuring more than 172,000, and causing widespread destruction that affected 90% of the civilian infrastructure.
