The Palestinians, who had been receiving treatment in Egypt, were brought by buses and ambulances to Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis in southern Gaza. Families who had been separated for a long time reunited after the buses carrying the Palestinians arrived in Gaza. Emotional scenes unfolded at the hospital as relatives embraced each other. Despite the ceasefire that took effect on Oct. 10, 2025, the Israeli army announced on Feb. 28 that all crossings in the area, including Rafah, would remain closed until further notice. The Rafah crossing was later reopened on March 19 only for pedestrian passage. Israeli authorities frequently impose restrictions at the Rafah crossing, Gaza’s only gateway to the outside world, for various reasons.
