The released individuals arrived in the central Gaza Strip traveling in vehicles belonging to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), which facilitated their transfer across the border. Following their arrival, the Palestinians were taken to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah to undergo essential medical examinations. The release comes as Israel continues to hold thousands of Palestinians detained from Gaza over the past two years, with rights groups and documented testimonies confirming that detainees are held in facilities lacking minimum humanitarian standards and subjected to torture, starvation, and medical neglect. More than 9,600 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons, including 90 women and 350 children, according to official Palestinian figures. Israel has imposed a crippling blockade on the Gaza Strip since 2007, leaving the territory’s 2.4 million people on the verge of starvation. The Israeli army launched a brutal two-year offensive on Gaza in October 2023, killing more than 72,000 people, injuring over 172,000, and causing massive destruction across the besieged territory.
