The Palestinian detainees were handed over to teams from the International Committee of the Red Cross. They were later transferred to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, to undergo medical examinations. These periodic releases occur under the framework of the prisoner exchange agreement that Hamas and Israel signed on October 13, 2025. More than 9,600 Palestinians, including 350 children and 73 women, are currently held in Israeli prisons and face torture, starvation and medical neglect, according to Palestinian and Israeli rights organizations. Since the start of Israel’s genocide on Gaza on Oct. 8, 2023, nearly 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 173,000 injured, while about 90 percent of the territory’s civilian infrastructure has been destroyed.
