FATHER OF YOUNG CHILD PATIENT MAYER AL-SHEKRA, ALI AL-SHEKRA SPEAKING TO REPORTER (Arabic)KHAN YOUNIS, GAZA, PALESTINE - MAY 6, 2026: A group of Palestinian patients and their companions departed the Gaza Strip through the Rafah Border Crossing on Wednesday, May 6, to receive life-saving medical treatment abroad. The evacuation was conducted under the coordination of the World Health Organization (WHO). The group includes critically injured individuals and patients suffering from chronic conditions whose medical needs can no longer be met within the Palestinian enclave. Health officials stated that the transfer is a necessary measure due to the decimated state of Gaza's healthcare infrastructure. Israel launched a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip on Oct. 2023, killing more than 72,000 Palestinians and injuring over 172,000, most of them women and children. Despite a ceasefire agreement that has been in effect since last Oct. 10, Israel has continued deadly attacks and a blockade on Gaza, killing 837 Palestinians and injuring 2,381 others, most of them women and children, in addition to causing widespread destruction.
