VARIOUS OF PALESTINIAN WOMEN AND CHILDREN HOLDING BANNERS DURING DEMONSTRATIONGAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - MAY 24: Palestinian women gathered outside Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza on Sunday, May 24, calling for safe passage and reunification with family members living abroad amid the ongoing war in the enclave. Women and children taking part in the demonstration in Khan Younis carried banners and called for border crossings to reopen so separated families could reunite. Cennet Ridwan, whose husband lives in Belgium, said her family reunification procedures had already been completed but they were still waiting to be allowed to leave Gaza. Another woman, identified as Umm Yusuf, said her husband had been living in Belgium for around three and a half years and described raising her children alone during the war. Ayet Abu Subha, who said she had not seen her husband in four years, described the conditions children face amid displacement, bombardment and humanitarian hardship in Gaza. The women called on international organizations and authorities to facilitate safe travel for families separated by the war. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 883 people have been killed and 2,648 others injured in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire was announced. The agreement was meant to halt Israel’s two-year war that killed more than 72,000 people, most of them women and children, injured over 172,000 since October 2023, and caused massive destruction affecting 90% of civilian infrastructure.
