PALESTINIAN CHILDREN PERFORMING TRADITIONAL DANCEDEIR AL-BALAH, GAZA, PALESTINE - MAY 12, 2026: Palestinian women in the central Gaza Strip city of Deir al-Balah organized an exhibition and bazaar titled “Women Produce Hope,” featuring small businesses and handmade products established after the war. At the event, held in tents, many Palestinian women displayed traditional handicrafts, homemade food products and small-scale projects launched despite the destruction caused by Israeli attacks. Participant Iftikhar al-Luh said her cleaning products workshop was destroyed during the war, forcing her to turn to homemade food production. She said the event held significant meaning, even though it was held in tents after the war, adding that the women were trying to rebuild and show they were still standing despite difficult conditions. Another participant, Fatin al-Harb, said the event reflected Palestinian women’s efforts to rebuild their lives after the war. She added that Palestinian women deserve life, freedom and dignity. Harb also said the event helped preserve Palestinian culture and identity. The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) said Israel’s war has completely destroyed more than 102,000 buildings and fully or partially damaged more than 330,000 housing units, along with widespread destruction of infrastructure, health facilities and schools in Gaza. The Israeli army has killed more than 72,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured over 172,000 others in a two-year offensive on Gaza since October 2023.
