VARIOUS OF GOODS AND PALESTINIANS BROWSING AT MARKETPLACEKHAN YOUNIS, GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE — MAY 23, 2026: Palestinians shopped at a marketplace in Khan Younis on Saturday, May 23, making preparations for the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday despite the continuing Israeli blockade on the enclave. Local residents filled the streets to purchase food, clothing, and essential goods for the major Islamic holiday, which is scheduled to begin on May 27 and run through May 30. Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the most important Islamic holidays, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. Muslims mark the occasion with prayer, feasting, and acts of charity. Israel has imposed a crippling blockade on the Gaza Strip since 2007, leaving the territory’s 2.4 million people on the verge of starvation. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 883 people have been killed and 2,648 others injured in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire was announced. The Israeli army launched a brutal two-year offensive on Gaza in October 2023, killing more than 72,000 people, injuring over 172,000 and causing massive destruction across the besieged territory.
