VARIOUS OF PALESTINIANS CHANTING RELIGIOUS HYMNS WITH CHILDREN AT SCHOOL SHELTERING DISPLACED PALESTINIANSKHAN YOUNIS, GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - AUG. 25, 2026: Palestinian children joined celebrations on Tuesday, Aug. 25, as residents of Khan Younis in southern Gaza gathered among the rubble left by the war to mark Mawlid al-Nabi, the anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. Palestinians walked through heavily damaged streets while singing religious hymns to mark Mawlid al-Nabi. Children gathered around the group and joined the celebrations, finding moments of joy amid the destruction surrounding them. The participants later visited a school sheltering displaced Palestinian families, where they sat with children and sang religious hymns together. Mawlid al-Nabi, which was traditionally celebrated in mosques and streets across Gaza before the war, was marked this year among destroyed homes, schools and mosques. Sheikh Mohammed Abu Mustafa said the atmosphere was very different from previous years, when Palestinians celebrated Mawlid al-Nabi by distributing food, drinks and sweets. Palestinian youth Yazan Masran said they had been unable to celebrate Mawlid al-Nabi as they had in previous years due to the war, attacks and blockade. He said the group gathered among the rubble to bring some joy to children living amid the destruction.
