Displaced Palestinian Najah Abu al-Kumbuz said tents offered little protection from the summer heat and described severe shortages of drinking water, as well as sewage problems and rodents in the camps. She said the conditions were also worsening her health. Palestinian, Najah Barda, said tents became unbearable during the day because of the heat, while mosquitoes, flies and rodents made it difficult to rest at night. With few ways to escape the heat, residents resorted to basic measures such as using water and makeshift fans to try to keep cool. Since Israel’s genocide in Gaza began on Oct. 8, 2023, more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 174,000 injured, while around 90% of the enclave’s civilian infrastructure has been destroyed.
