US, Phoenix: Mesa Southern Avenue Defensive House Fire.

Phoenix, United States - July 27, 2026 07/27/2026 04:26 am GMT-0700 MESA, Ariz. – Firefighters from Mesa and Gilbert responded to a house fire in the 3400 block of East Southern Avenue shortly before 4:30 a.m. Monday. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke billowing from a single-story house. They entered the structure to initiate an offensive fire attack, but a significant portion of the roof collapsed, prompting firefighters to evacuate due to structural concerns. Firefighters shifted to a defensive strategy, battling the blaze from outside using handlines and one elevated master stream. According to initial unconfirmed information gathered at the scene, two dogs were reported to be in the garage of the house. Firefighters were observed cutting open the garage door for access to locate the animals, but it remains unclear if the pets were found. Firefighters gained full control of the fire in approximately 30 minutes. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
