Los Angeles, United States - June 29, 2026 06/29/2026 02:30 PM GMT-0700 SIMI VALLEY, Calif. – A vehicle crashed into the Urbane Cafe this afternoon, resulting in the death of a woman who was walking by the restaurant. Simi Valley Police Department Sergeant Rick Morton said the communication center received a 911 call around 2:30 PM reporting a Tesla had struck the cafe, trapping a female victim underneath the vehicle. When officers arrived, they discovered the deceased woman. Morton stated the preliminary investigation indicated that the woman was walking near the cafe when she was struck. The driver of the Tesla, an elderly female, was taken to a local hospital with pain in her wrist or arm. Four juvenile passengers were also in the vehicle; one was taken to a local hospital by a family member for precautionary reasons, while the other three were picked up by relatives at the scene. Police noted the presence of car seats in the Tesla but did not have the ages of the juveniles at the time. Morton said investigators are trying to determine the vehicle's speed at the time of the incident, and they are reviewing surveillance footage from a neighboring business. "We're still trying to determine what actually caused that to happen," Morton said, referencing the vehicle's possible speed and the driver’s control at the time of the crash. The investigation includes assessing whether impairment or a mechanical issue contributed to the incident. The Urbane Cafe suffered structural damage due to the crash and has been red-tagged while officials assess the extent of the damage. Authorities will continue gathering information as the investigation progresses.
