Los Angeles, United States - October 15, 2026 10/15/2026 12:09 am GMT-0700 ARLETA, LOS ANGELES, Calif. – A multi-vehicle collision occurred on the southbound 5 Freeway near the intersection with the 170 Freeway. The crash involved a white sedan and a CALTRANS vehicle. The driver of the white sedan, a male in his 40s, was trapped in the vehicle and sustained injuries. Meanwhile, the CALTRANS worker sustained minor injuries, although this has not been confirmed. The southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway were closed for approximately 40 minutes before vehicles were permitted to transition onto the southbound 170 Freeway only. While the cause of the collision remains unclear, initial reports suggest that the white sedan may have crashed into the CALTRANS vehicle while workers were attempting to slow down traffic for upcoming freeway work. The sedan sustained heavy damage and was totaled. Both drivers involved in the incident were transported to the hospital.
