Vya, United States - August 29, 2026 About 300 cattle were moved from Nevada into California on August 29 as ranchers coordinated with California Interagency Incident Management Team 2 during fire suppression operations on the S1 Vya Fire near Vya. Video shows a herd of black cattle moving across a wide gravel road through open high desert beneath a clear blue sky. Dust rises as the animals pass metal gates and sagebrush, followed by a rider on horseback and a white pickup with a cattle guard. Later footage captures the cattle close to the camera, along with a cowboy on horseback, a second horse at the edge of the frame and low hills on the horizon. The S-1 Vya Fire started August 24, about three miles north of Vya in northern Washoe County, Nevada, near the Oregon line. High winds and dry grass and brush pushed the fire across grazing allotments. By September 2, the fire had burned 9,692 acres and was 69 percent contained, with more than 400 personnel assigned. The cause remained undetermined. Ranchers moved the cattle off the fire-threatened range on August 29, working with the incident team so the herd could cross from Nevada into California. The cattle arrived safely in California on August 30.
