good morning and welcome to midweek
0:03
insights with Pastor
0:05
John I'm Pastor John Moore from popular
0:08
Assembly of God and today we're going to
0:11
be taking a look at something I made
0:13
reference to and I want to give you some
0:15
scriptural background on it I made this
0:18
statement that you can believe in
0:21
something and not have faith in it but
0:23
you can't have
0:24
faith in something that you don't
0:27
believe
0:27
in and as I was uh praying over this and
0:32
preparing this um I want you to turn
0:35
your Bibles to Luke chapter
0:38
22 and uh this is at the Lord's supper
0:42
and uh Jesus is speaking to Peter he
0:46
said starting verse 31 he says and the
0:50
Lord said Simon Simon behold Satan hath
0:53
desired to have you that he may sift you
0:56
as wheat but I have prayed for thee that
0:59
thy faith fell not and when thou art
1:02
converted strengthen thy
1:07
Brethren now Peter had recognized who
1:10
Jesus
1:11
was uh he had called him Lord he had
1:14
said he was truly the Messiah he was the
1:17
son of God Jesus had told him several
1:20
times that man had not revealed that to
1:22
him but that God had revealed it to him
1:25
but at this point Peter believed but he
1:29
didn't have faith in Jesus and the
1:30
reason he didn't have faith in Jesus yet
1:35
is because Jesus had not risen from the
1:37
dead in fact he hadn't even been
1:39
crucified yet at this point and uh he
1:42
goes on in verse 33 and he said unto him
1:44
Lord I am ready to go with thee both
1:47
into prison and to death and he said I
1:50
tell thee Peter the shall not Crow
1:52
this day before that thou shall Thrice
1:55
deny that thou knowest
1:58
me and this
2:01
passage if we understand what uh to
2:04
understand what I said that you can
2:07
believe in something not have faith in
2:08
it but you can't have faith in something
2:11
you don't believe in so at this point
2:14
Peter
2:16
believes who Jesus said he was he
2:18
believes that Jesus is the Messiah but
2:22
what he hasn't reconciled yet is the
2:25
fact that for Jesus truly to be the
2:28
Messiah it was going to require his
2:30
death burial and Resurrection because
2:33
his purpose for being here was to bring
2:37
his
2:38
salvation and one of the things that uh
2:41
we often times Miss is is that reference
2:45
that Jesus made to being sifted as wheat
2:49
and if you've never if you've never
2:51
harvested wheat uh you never seen a
2:54
wheat Harvest especially you know in the
2:56
Middle
2:57
East they they take the wheat they cut
3:01
it down and they knock it Loose uh from
3:05
the wheat stock and then they W they use
3:09
the term is called winnowing and what
3:11
they do is they toss that wheat up in
3:15
the air and and they do it vigorously
3:17
and what it does is it knocks the dirt
3:20
off it knocks the chaff off the wheat it
3:22
takes the hole off the wheat and it
3:24
makes the wheat uh come to a place where
3:27
it could be dried out in ground and
3:28
turned into flour
3:30
to make it into you uh a usable food
3:34
source because wheat in it in and of
3:38
itself in its natural whole state you
3:41
can't eat it there's no way to eat it
3:43
you could boil it and turn it into
3:45
porridge but if you want to make bread
3:48
you have to grind that wheat and you
3:50
can't grind it if it's got all of the
3:52
stuff on it and
3:55
so we as Christians as Believers in God
4:00
we go through things and that process
4:03
that we're going through is knocking all
4:08
the stuff off of us it's it's putting us
4:10
into a position where we're much more
4:13
prepared and able to share the word of
4:17
God with someone and so after uh Jesus
4:22
died and he rose from the dead and he's
4:23
appeared to his disciples several times
4:27
at this point their faith is real they
4:31
don't just
4:32
believe who Jesus is now they actually
4:36
believe in Jesus because he's he's come
4:39
back from the dead and so to get the
4:43
full picture of what happened we need to
4:47
go over to the Book of John in chapter
4:51
21 at the end of the Gospel of John and
4:55
listen to what Jesus now says to Peter
4:58
because Peter has gone through this
5:01
process he's denied Christ he has felt
5:06
rejected because uh of himself he feels
5:09
he's unworthy that he he has no Ministry
5:12
left because he denied Christ three
5:14
times uh to the point that he he act as
5:17
though he didn't even know him and never
5:19
had known him and so in verse 15 is
5:22
where it starts and we're going to go
5:23
from from there he says so when they had
5:27
died Jesus said to Simon Peter Simon son
5:30
of Jonas lovest thou me more than
5:34
these and Peter
5:37
says he saith unto him yay Lord thou
5:39
knowest that I love thee he saith unto
5:42
him feed my
5:43
lambs and he said to him again the
5:46
second time Simon son of Jonas lovest
5:48
thou me and he saith unto him yay Lord
5:51
thou knowest that I love thee he saith
5:53
unto him feed my
5:56
sheep and he says unto him the third
5:59
time s son of Jonas lovest thou me and
6:02
Peter was grieved because he said unto
6:05
him the third time lovest thou me and he
6:07
said unto him Lord thou knowest all
6:09
things thou knowest that I love thee and
6:12
Jesus said unto him feed my sheep verily
6:16
verily I say unto thee when thou was
6:18
young and thou GED thyself and wst
6:20
whether thou would but when thou shall
6:22
be old thou shallal stretch forth thine
6:25
hands and another shall G thee and carry
6:27
thee whether thou wouldst not go
6:31
thisp he signifying by what death he
6:33
should glorify God and when he had
6:35
spoken this he saith unto him follow
6:39
me then Peter turning about seeth the
6:42
disciple whom Jesus loved following
6:45
which also leaned on his breast at
6:48
supper he's speaking of himself John and
6:51
said Lord which is he that betrayeth
6:53
thee and Peter seeing him saith to
6:57
Jesus Lord and what shall this me do and
7:01
Jesus says unto him if I will that he T
7:04
till I come what is that to thee follow
7:07
thou me then went this saying abroad
7:10
among the Brethren that the disciples
7:12
should not die yet Jesus said not unto
7:15
him he shall not die but if I will that
7:18
he tar till I come what is that to thee
7:22
and we have to understand
7:26
something and that is each and every one
7:28
of us is on our own
7:31
journey and part of this uh being sifted
7:36
as weed is coming to a place where we
7:39
understand that it doesn't matter what
7:41
the other people do it doesn't matter
7:43
what the other people say what matters
7:46
is what we
7:48
do God didn't call
7:52
me to do anything other than what he
7:55
directed me to do I
7:58
can't uh
8:00
model my Ministry on somebody else I
8:04
have to do it the way God has laid it
8:07
out for me to
8:09
do I could be the most eloquent speaker
8:12
there is I could come with just
8:15
wonderful words and and encouragement
8:18
and all of these kind of things and we
8:21
should we should encourage other people
8:24
to serve God to the fullest but at the
8:27
same
8:28
time I also can't look at what someone
8:31
else is doing because if I do then I
8:35
fall into this category of uh judging
8:40
them and it that judging that we're
8:43
talking about Jesus talked about it in
8:45
The Sermon on the Mount is I I'm in
8:48
danger of judging based on hypocrisy
8:51
well I'm better than they are because I
8:54
do this and they don't or I'm not as
8:57
good as they are because they do this
9:00
and I don't each one of us are called to
9:04
serve God to the best of our abilities
9:06
with the talents and things that he's
9:09
given us and put inside us to do the job
9:12
he's called us to do each and every one
9:14
of us have something different to do
9:17
with all of us working towards the same
9:21
goal which is reaching the lost with the
9:24
message of the Gospel that the Kingdom
9:26
of Heaven has come that you don't have
9:29
to continue living in the life you're
9:31
living you can go forward and you can
9:34
walk in faith and you can believe and
9:36
trust in God because God has made a way
9:39
for us to enter into his
9:43
rest and we
9:46
can't take the
9:49
position of I'm not good enough or that
9:55
person's better than I am because they
9:56
can speak better than I can or they they
9:59
they can sing better than I can or
10:02
they're a better musician than I am or
10:04
or whatever the case might be because
10:06
each and every one of us have our own
10:08
particular talents and abilities that
10:11
God's given us and those are what he
10:13
uses he doesn't use someone else's
10:15
talents for
10:18
us except for to draw us closer to him
10:23
but each and every one of us in
10:25
Ministry and I'm speaking to the whole
10:27
church not
10:30
ministers but in the ministry which is
10:34
proclaiming the
10:35
gospel to Every Creature as he
10:39
commanded he uses the talents we have he
10:43
uses the material that we are when we
10:47
confess him as Lord and we've repented
10:50
faith has come we're stepping out to
10:52
reach other people for the kingdom of
10:54
God he's going to use the talents he put
10:57
in you to make that happen
11:01
at the same time we also have to
11:02
understand that that is the one thing
11:04
that the enemy Satan does not want to
11:07
happen he does not want you to have a
11:09
testimony of Jesus Christ because if you
11:12
do people are going to get saved and he
11:15
doesn't want that he wants to
11:18
he wants to destroy as many as possible
11:22
until his time on Earth is done and so
11:25
we need to make sure that as we're going
11:27
forward we realize
11:29
that the enemy is going to
11:31
attack there's going to be rests between
11:36
attacks um when you read through the
11:39
Temptation Of Christ after he tempted
11:42
him with he said if you're the Son of
11:44
God turn these breads uh this Stone into
11:47
bread uh he showed him
11:51
uh all the kingdoms of the world and
11:53
said if you'll worship me you can have
11:55
these he took them to the top of the
11:56
temple and told him that the word said
11:59
you know cast yourself down because the
12:01
angels are going to protect you and
12:03
Jesus overcame him by the
12:05
word and then it says and Satan left him
12:08
for a
12:09
time there's always rest
12:13
periods in the battle and if you read
12:17
through that when Jesus had overcome
12:20
Satan in the Temptation it says when
12:24
Satan had left him the Angels Came and
12:27
ministered unto him
12:30
and then he went after that ministering
12:32
of the Angels then he went out and began
12:34
his public Ministry he began calling
12:36
disciples and he turned water into wine
12:39
he started healing sick and uh casting
12:42
out demons and doing all these things
12:44
clear up until he was you know taken and
12:47
tried and
12:49
crucified
12:51
died and rose from the dead so we have
12:54
to
12:56
realize that there's going to be battles
12:59
that we need to keep our our Vigilant
13:04
watch over what's going on around
13:06
us and we also need to understand that
13:10
Jesus is never going to leave us or
13:11
forsake us he's going to be right there
13:14
with us through the
13:16
trials but we have to go through those
13:18
trials those trials is what produces
13:21
growth in us and prepares us to do the
13:25
next thing that God wants us to do so if
13:29
you're going through something praise
13:31
God and I mean that literally if you're
13:34
going through something begin to praise
13:36
God because if you get
13:39
thankful to God in the tough times he's
13:42
going to take you through to the
13:45
Victory and uh he tells you in uh 1
13:49
Thessalonians 5:18 and everything give
13:51
thanks for this is the will of God for
13:53
Christ Jesus concerning you so learn to
13:56
be thankful in the tough times Praise
13:58
Him and when you get through the trials
14:01
be prepared to share the gospel with
14:04
people as you see
14:06
them and above all things realize that
14:11
even when the enemy comes against you
14:13
even when you're being sifted you're
14:16
still going to have the victory but you
14:18
must fight that
14:20
battle it's important without fighting
14:23
that battle there's not going to be
14:25
growth you're not going to change your
14:26
own life and you're not going to change
14:28
anybody else life either
14:31
so accept
14:33
battles um Romans 8:28 says for all
14:37
things work together for good to them
14:39
that love the Lord and are the called
14:40
according to his purposes and when it
14:43
says all things that means good things
14:45
and bad things what we have to do is
14:47
remain thankful and go through it
14:51
because it's a
14:52
process I'm going to leave that with you
14:54
this week we'll see you guys again next
14:56
week and just remember Jesus Jesus has
14:59
it under control if you're trusting the
15:01
controller all right we'll see you next
15:03
week
