Welcome to Insights with Pastor John.
0:05
Today we're going to talk about
0:07
worldview. But before we do, let's pray.
0:09
Heavenly Father, we just thank you and
0:11
praise you, Lord, for this opportunity
0:12
to take a look at your word and at your
0:14
truth. Help us, Lord, to understand this
0:17
and apply it to ourselves so that we can
0:20
grow in you and become closer to you in
0:22
all that we do.
0:25
So today, we're going to be looking at
0:27
worldview. And what world view is is how
0:30
you look at and relate to the world. So
0:34
I'm going to give you a definition of a
0:36
worldview is a a perspective that seeks
0:39
to answer life's questions based on the
0:42
teachings of the Bible. It integrates
0:45
profound theological truths such as
0:47
God's creation, human dignity, the
0:50
reality of sin and salvation through
0:53
Christ with practical applications in
0:55
everyday life. This worldview emphasizes
0:58
that God has revealed himself through
1:01
trustworthy scriptures which guide
1:03
believers in understanding and
1:05
interacting with the world around them.
1:08
So what a world view is is your
1:14
uh the way that you
1:17
interact with the world based on your
1:20
belief system. is. And so how you
1:25
perceive the world, how you interact
1:28
with the world, how you approach the
1:31
world is all based on your understanding
1:34
of what God's word says. That's why it's
1:36
so important. 2 Timothy 2:15 says,
1:38
"Study to show yourself approved unto
1:40
God, a workman needing not to be
1:42
ashamed, rightly dividing the word of
1:45
truth." And this is so key in
1:48
establishing a correct worldview. So
1:51
when you're looking at the world view of
1:54
a Christian as compared to the worldview
1:56
of a non-Christian or a non-believer,
2:01
uh you have this distinct
2:04
difference between what motivates people
2:06
and what doesn't, what their perspective
2:09
uh how their perspective determines what
2:12
they believe. And so when you're looking
2:15
at your worldview and you're looking at
2:17
the world through a biblical
2:20
perspective, you begin to see things.
2:22
And you know, the Apostle Paul, he was
2:24
very um he was very pointed about things
2:29
that a Christian can't do and still be
2:33
able to maintain their salvation. And uh
2:37
in Galatians chapter 5 before he talks
2:41
about the fruit of the spirit which are
2:43
things that should be self-evident in a
2:45
Christian's life he talked about things
2:48
that can separate you from eternity. And
2:52
so he went through them and these are
2:54
the works of the flesh. It starts in
2:56
verse 19. He said uh the very first one
2:59
he said is adultery. And if you look it
3:01
up, the word is moia in Greek and it
3:06
means sex outside of marriage. In other
3:08
words, you're h in you're having sex
3:11
with someone you're not married to. Uh
3:14
and it can only be adultery if one of
3:17
the two partners or both of the partners
3:19
are married to somebody else, but
3:21
they're engaging in in sexual
3:24
relationships.
3:26
The second one he goes to is
3:27
fornication.
3:29
And the Greek word for p fornication is
3:32
pornia which is the word that we get
3:35
pornography from. And he defines
3:39
fornication like this. It's acts of
3:42
caratry,
3:45
prostitution,
3:46
adultery, and incest. And you know in 1
3:51
Corinthians chapter 5, Paul had to deal
3:54
with this. If you go in there and read
3:55
it, there were believers in the church
3:57
in the city of Corenth where a man was
4:01
having sex with his father's wife and it
4:04
was being generally accepted by the
4:06
people in the church of Corenth. The
4:09
next one, there's actually 17 of these
4:13
and these are things that we need to be
4:14
aware of because there a lot of these
4:17
are acceptable to the world, but the
4:20
Bible teaches strictly against in doing
4:22
any of these things.
4:24
uncleanness. Uh, aaristia,
4:28
which means impurity, both physical or
4:31
moral impurity, not being dirty, as in
4:35
physically dirty, but doing acts or
4:39
committing acts that are physically or
4:44
uh morally impure.
4:48
Uh, lasciviousness, man, this is this is
4:51
one a lot. Aselgia is the word. It means
4:54
wantingness
4:56
or or filthy lasciviousness or seeking
4:58
after things that are uh completely
5:02
about the flesh. Idolatry,
5:06
image worship, witchcraft. Now, this one
5:08
this one is is something you should
5:11
listen to. Witchcraft. The word for
5:13
witchcraft is pharmarmacia
5:16
and it includes mindaltering drugs,
5:20
uh, medications, includes acts of magic,
5:24
sorcery, and witchcraft. So when you
5:28
that includes things like reading
5:30
horoscopes,
5:32
uh, going and visiting palm readers, uh,
5:35
seeking psychics online. This is all
5:37
forms of witchcraft, and the Bible
5:39
teaches against it. In fact, not only
5:41
does Paul talk about it in the New
5:43
Testament, but it was it was such an
5:46
abomination to God in the Old Testament
5:49
that he said not to suffer a witch to
5:51
live amongst you. Um,
5:56
hatred,
5:58
hatred, uh, the word is ecra and it
6:02
means hostility.
6:04
It means immunity, hatred and
6:06
opposition. In fact, it was such an
6:09
egregious thing that Jesus said if you
6:11
hate someone, you have as in your heart,
6:14
you have already committed murder.
6:17
The next one is variance. It's errors.
6:20
It's quarreling, being contentious,
6:23
having uh hostile debates, creating
6:26
strife. This is what the word variance
6:29
is about. Uh you see this a lot with
6:32
people that get into political
6:34
arguments.
6:36
um
6:38
because they're they're so right,
6:40
they're wrong. You can come to a place
6:43
where you are so so indignant
6:47
that you cannot uh help but argue with
6:51
any person who has a different point of
6:53
view than you. Uh emulations. Now, this
6:57
one is un a little bit unusual because
6:59
I've heard a lot of different
7:01
interpretations of what that word means,
7:04
but emulations is zalos. That's the
7:06
Greek word, and it literally means zeal.
7:09
And if you want a a true definition of
7:11
what he's talking about here, remember
7:13
when Paul
7:15
had his uh road to Damascus
7:20
conversion,
7:22
he was a a Jewish zealot and he was on
7:25
his way to Damascus to put Christians in
7:30
chains and take them back to Jerusalem
7:32
to be executed.
7:35
So the word means zeal or envying or
7:38
indignation, righteous indignation. Uh
7:41
fervent uh having a fervent mind, a mind
7:44
that's totally constantly focused on on
7:48
how much you need to get rid of these
7:49
people you disagree with. Jealousy.
7:53
Um and then the next one is wrath. The
7:57
word in Greek is stumos and it means
7:59
fierceness ind fierce indignation.
8:04
Wrath is where you're going to
8:07
uh extract judgment on someone and none
8:10
of us are are capable of jud of
8:14
judgment. The next one he talks about is
8:17
strife.
8:19
Strife means contention. It means
8:21
arguing. It means getting into heated
8:24
arguments with people over things.
8:27
seditions, dustia.
8:30
It means disunion, division,
8:33
uh, or causing people to separate. You
8:36
ever been to a church that's gone
8:38
through a split or is in the middle of
8:41
going through a split and you've got two
8:42
factions going on in the church and
8:45
they're a constant uh, disagreement with
8:47
each other. These are seditions. These
8:50
are things that cause people to separate
8:52
and we're called to unity.
8:55
Heresies.
8:58
Heresies are actually
9:01
when someone makes a choice
9:05
that causes division.
9:09
Envying.
9:11
Uh the word is uh fthonos and it's ill
9:16
will
9:18
or jealousy or spite towards someone
9:22
else.
9:24
murders. Phonos it means to literally to
9:27
murder or slaughter someone.
9:30
Drunkenness. Meth
9:33
is to get drunk or be intoxicated.
9:36
And the last one he talks about is
9:38
revelings. And reings is actually
9:42
tumultuous rioting. So when you have
9:45
people
9:46
uh like right now there's a lot going on
9:49
riots and people having violent
9:52
outbursts towards different factions in
9:55
government and those kind of things.
9:57
Paul talks about that as not being that
9:59
is not the way a Christian is supposed
10:01
to to act. You shouldn't be part of that
10:04
group. You shouldn't be there in any
10:06
way. So if the Christian worldview is to
10:10
be interpreted correctly,
10:13
then you should be looking at John 3:16.
10:16
For God so loved the world that he gave
10:18
his only begotten son that whosoever
10:20
believeth in him should not perish but
10:21
have everlasting life.
10:24
And then John 3:17 says, for God did not
10:27
send his son into the world to condemn
10:28
the world, but that the world through
10:30
him might be saved. So we have this we
10:33
have this uh
10:36
com this real distinction between how
10:39
the world looks at things and how
10:41
Christians should look at things. And if
10:44
you have a if you have a uh correct
10:47
worldview and you're looking at the
10:50
world from God's point of view, then
10:53
what you have there is you have an
10:55
opportunity to share
10:58
uh God's word, to share God's life. Uh
11:03
James put it this way. He said, "You can
11:07
show you can tell me of your works o of
11:10
your faith by your words and I will show
11:13
you my faith by my works." In other
11:17
words, I'm going to go out here and I'm
11:19
going to tell people about Jesus and I'm
11:22
going to do it in a way where the
11:24
actions I take, i.e. my world view,
11:29
reflect what I believe. And that's a
11:33
that is a proper world view. And u so I
11:38
want to encourage you this week. Take a
11:41
look at yourself. Look at what you stand
11:44
for and then compare it to what the
11:46
Bible says you should stand for. And at
11:49
the end of the day, what you're looking
11:52
for is for the fruits of the spirit to
11:54
be evident in your life. And that your
11:57
world view is based on those things. So,
12:01
we'll see you guys next week. Have a
12:03
great week and remember that Jesus loves
12:06
you and he came here for you. He came to
12:09
make a difference in your life and
12:11
everybody else's life. And so, he loved
12:15
the world so much. He came here. He gave
12:18
his life. His death, burial,
12:20
resurrection
12:22
changed the world. And
12:25
that is the most important thing that we
12:28
can focus on. How can I share what Jesus
12:31
did on the cross with someone who does
12:33
not know or does not believe? I'll see
12:36
you guys next week.
