Welcome to Insights with Pastor John.
0:04
I'm Pastor John Moore and today's
0:06
episode is the law of the harvest. But
0:09
before we get into that part, we need to
0:10
take care of a little business. So when
0:13
you see this, make sure you go down
0:14
below and you hit like and follow. And
0:18
if you would like to help support the
0:21
ministries of
0:23
uh
0:25
insights,
0:26
uh you can donate to us and we would be
0:31
honored to have your help if the Lord
0:33
lays that on your heart. So now let's
0:36
talk about the law of the harvest. And
0:39
what the law of the harvest is is in the
0:41
beginning when God created everything
0:43
and he commanded the plants and the
0:46
grass and the fruit trees and everything
0:48
go one of the things he said was to let
0:50
every seedbearing plant bear after its
0:54
own kind.
0:55
And that's God setting things in order.
0:59
So the law of the harvest comes from
1:01
Galatians 6 and7.
1:03
It says be not deceived. God is not
1:05
mocked, for whatsoever a man seweth,
1:07
that shall he also reap.
1:10
When I was a boy, I used to help my mom
1:13
with a garden. And one of the things my
1:16
mom would say was, "Well, when you plant
1:19
corn, you get corn." So, we would place
1:22
the corn in in rows and we put it in
1:25
there and she we'd cover it, we'd begin
1:28
to water it, and the crop would come up.
1:33
And when we planted corn, we got corn.
1:35
You didn't find watermelons or apples or
1:37
tomatoes growing growing where you
1:40
planted the corn. You found corn. So
1:43
it's a simple truth that even as a child
1:46
I understood that if I sewed corn, if I
1:49
put corn in the garden, I was going to
1:51
get corn back.
1:54
And the same thing applies to our
1:57
spiritual life. And it's things that we
1:59
need to keep in mind as we go through
2:02
life that uh there's a statement I made
2:05
not too long ago and this is that
2:07
statement. You reap what you sow and
2:11
what you water grows. So that's an
2:15
important con uh concept to have in
2:18
mind. Whatever it is that you plant,
2:21
then you expect to get that back
2:24
as a harvest.
2:27
And that when you plant that seed in a
2:31
garden, you have to water it or you
2:33
don't get if you expect to get that
2:37
crop, then you're going to water that
2:39
crop so it'll grow and produce fruit. So
2:42
you reap what you sow and what you water
2:47
grows.
2:49
So
2:51
we want to uh look at this and look at
2:54
this from Paul's point of view and the
2:56
things that he said in a biblical
2:58
context. So Paul's writing to the church
3:00
of Galatia and he warned them against
3:03
returning to a life of sin and fleshly
3:06
living after receiving the truth of
3:09
Christ. So the law of the harvest is not
3:11
just an agricultural fact. It's a divine
3:14
principle woven into God's moral oral
3:17
moral order and it reminds us of three
3:20
truths. There's three things about the
3:23
law of the harvest. The first thing is
3:25
number one, you reap what you sow. The
3:28
second one is you reap later than you
3:31
sew. You don't go out to a garden and
3:33
plant corn today and expect to go out
3:35
tomorrow and reap corn. It takes time.
3:40
And the other thing about reaping uh the
3:44
law of the harvest is that you reap more
3:46
than you sow. Uh give you an an example
3:49
of corn. One corn one kernel of corn
3:52
produces one corn plant that produces
3:56
three ears of corn. And each ear of corn
4:00
has you know a couple hundred kernels of
4:05
corn per ear. So, if you can look at
4:08
that context,
4:10
I planted a corn, one kernel of corn,
4:13
and the corn plant came up. It's got
4:17
three ears on it, and each ear has got
4:19
about two 160 to 200 kernels of corn on
4:23
it. So, from one kernel of corn that I
4:25
planted, I got back
4:28
uh between four and 600 kernels of corn.
4:33
you reap more than you sow.
4:37
So I want to put that in and get that
4:41
into context because our lives as
4:44
Christian is full of choices and each
4:46
choice that we make is a seed. We're
4:48
sowing something with every choice. What
4:51
you sew today will grow into into
4:54
tomorrow's harvest. And this is true in
4:57
your finances. It's true in
4:58
relationships and spiritual growth and
5:01
eternal destiny. So, what we're going to
5:03
do today is we're going to go take a
5:05
look at God's unchangeable law of
5:08
harvest. The first point is you reap
5:10
what you sow.
5:13
Uh,
5:14
and a farmer
5:17
planting wheat doesn't expect to harvest
5:21
barley.
5:22
Spiritually growing
5:25
uh sewing in sin will produce corruption
5:28
and sewing in the spirit will yield life
5:30
eternal. The key verse is for they have
5:33
sown the wind and they shall reap the
5:35
whirlwind. That's in Hosea 8:7. This is
5:38
in in regards to sewing in the things
5:42
that aren't going to produce something
5:43
productive for you.
5:46
A man who continually sews bitterness
5:48
will eventually be surrounded by broken
5:51
relationships.
5:54
So, and understanding that in
5:56
relationships,
5:58
it's just like growing a garden. It's
6:00
like any other thing. When you're in a
6:02
relationship, the first thing that's
6:04
required for a relationship to be
6:06
successful is communication. You have to
6:09
communicate one to another. If what
6:11
you're communicating is always
6:13
bitterness, anger, hatred, strife,
6:16
that's exactly what you're going to get
6:18
back. But if you're sewing
6:22
into the fruit of the spirit and you're
6:24
sewing love and cooperation
6:26
and uh
6:29
putting the needs of others before
6:30
yourself, that is exactly what you're
6:33
going to get in return.
6:36
So the first thing you need to do when
6:39
you're going to apply these rules of the
6:41
law of the harvest is you need to ask
6:44
yourself a question. And that question
6:47
is this. What kind of seeds am I
6:50
planting in my thoughts, in my words,
6:52
and in my actions? Because everything we
6:55
do has consequences.
6:58
Uh when my son was growing up, I used to
7:00
tell him, "Everything you do, you're
7:02
either going to reap a reward and a
7:04
blessing or you're going to reap a
7:06
consequence and a curse."
7:08
And it applies to that applies to us and
7:11
everything we do. So,
7:14
always ask yourself, what kind of seeds
7:16
am I planting?
7:18
in my thoughts, am I focusing on the
7:20
things of God? You know, uh Joshua 1:9,
7:25
it says to meditate upon the word day
7:27
and night that you may have success,
7:29
that you may prosper wherever you go.
7:32
He's telling you what to think on uh to
7:35
think on these things. Uh Philippians
7:38
4:8, another prime example, think on
7:41
these things. If you what you think is
7:43
what you become,
7:46
that's what seeds you're sewing.
7:50
And always remember that when you're
7:52
doing when you're sewing seeds, you're
7:56
going to produce a crop. It doesn't
7:57
matter what it is, it's going to produce
8:00
something. Um, if you if you plant
8:03
weeds, you're going to get weeds. If you
8:05
plant a crop, you're going to get a
8:07
crop. Remember, you reap what you sow
8:10
and what you waters. What you water is
8:13
what you grow.
8:16
The second point I want to look at is to
8:19
understand that you reap later than you
8:23
sow. It's important. No harvest comes
8:26
immediately after planting. There's
8:27
always a waiting season. The same is
8:30
true spiritually. Both good and bad
8:32
seeds take time to produce results.
8:36
Um, if I spend all my time
8:40
sewing and watering
8:44
the bad things that I'm looking at in
8:46
life and it's all I can think about,
8:47
it's all I focus on. It's all I look
8:49
forward to. That's exactly the crop I'm
8:52
going to get back. And it's important
8:54
that we understand that that it is
8:59
of the utmost importance actually that
9:02
as we're going through as we're sewing
9:04
seed that we sew good seed into good
9:07
ground and then we water that seed and
9:10
tend that seed so it produces a good
9:13
crop.
9:16
Listen to what Paul says in Galatians
9:18
6:9. He says, "And let us not be weary
9:20
in welloing, for in due season we shall
9:24
reap if we faint not,
9:27
no matter what's going on in your life."
9:29
And and Romans 8:28 speaks of this. It
9:32
says, "In everything, give thanks, for
9:34
this is the will of God in Christ Jesus
9:36
concerning you." That means in the good
9:38
and the bad if you're so in thanks. He
9:40
also tells you in Thessalonians it says
9:43
that uh
9:48
in everything give thanks for this is
9:50
the will of God in Christ Jesus
9:51
concerning you. So when you learn how to
9:54
be thankful when things are bad, you can
9:57
be doubly thankful when things are good.
10:00
When I'm sewing
10:02
and I'm expecting to re reap a harvest,
10:06
what I get back is exactly what I sowed
10:09
and watered.
10:12
And you know, there's other things that
10:14
Jesus said like what you do in secret,
10:18
God will reward you for openly. So, you
10:21
have to examine your life. If you're if
10:23
you have a life of secret sin, in other
10:25
words, you do these things where nobody
10:27
can see them except for God, eventually
10:32
that's going to produce a crop. And you
10:36
may look good for for years, but one day
10:38
the fruit will appear. And you know, the
10:41
same thing applies
10:43
to doing good things.
10:45
uh when you're doing things that are
10:48
that line up to God's word and you're
10:50
living your life according to the
10:51
principles in God's word and you're
10:53
doing what God says eventually you're
10:56
going to reap a harvest of what you've
10:59
seown. So stay faithful in the planting
11:02
season even when you don't see results
11:04
yet knowing and having confidence that
11:07
at some point eventually I am going to
11:10
reap a harvest of what I've sown.
11:14
And then u
11:17
the third point is that you reap more
11:20
than you sow.
11:22
A single seed produces as I said
11:24
produces many times its own kind. Sin
11:27
multiplies as well and so does
11:30
righteousness. What you're sewing is
11:32
going to produce a c crop and it's going
11:34
to produce an abundant crop and it's
11:38
either going to produce an abundantly
11:40
good crop or it's going to produce an
11:43
abundantly bad crop and you determine
11:45
which kind of crop you get.
11:48
Um Jesus talked about uh in Matthew 13:8
11:52
he was talking about sewing good seed.
11:55
He said, "But other fella into good
11:57
ground and bought forth fruit, some
11:59
100fold, some 60fold, and some 30fold."
12:04
Small acts of kindness can ripple into
12:06
generations of blessings. You can change
12:09
people's lives by your actions. Uh don't
12:13
don't underestimate the power of one
12:15
seed, one prayer, one gift, one word of
12:18
encouragement.
12:20
And all of these things are critical in
12:23
you becoming and producing the very best
12:27
that you can. Um, let me give you some
12:30
biblical references. You go back and
12:31
look them up. There's Galatians 6 and
12:34
7-9,
12:35
Hosea 8:7, Matthew 13:8, Proverbs 11:18,
12:39
and 2 Corinthians 9 and 6, and Job 4:8.
12:44
And so God's law of the harvest is
12:47
inescapable.
12:49
You reap what you sow.
12:52
And every day where seeds are are
12:55
leaving your hand, you're sewing
12:57
and entering the soil of life. The
12:59
question is, what are you planting?
13:03
Today, God invites you to sew to the
13:05
spirit repentance, obedience, love, and
13:07
faith. The greatest seed you can plant
13:10
is to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord
13:12
and Savior.
13:14
And then finally, I want to pray with
13:16
you. Father, help us to sew seeds that
13:18
honor you. Forgive the seeds of sin
13:20
we've planted and give us grace to begin
13:22
aresh today. May our lives bear a
13:25
harvest of righteousness to your glory
13:27
in Jesus name. Amen. So this week, begin
13:31
to look at the seeds you're sewing.
13:36
Understand that those seeds that you're
13:39
sewing are going to produce a crop of
13:41
some kind. If you're sewing uh seeds of
13:45
uh destruction, you're going to reap
13:47
destruction. If you're sewing seeds of
13:49
blessing, you're going to receive
13:51
blessing. So, as you go through your
13:54
day, consider what you're sewing and
13:59
then realize that you need to water this
14:02
good seeds and you need to weed out the
14:05
bad ones. So, we'll see you guys next
14:08
week on our next episode of Insights
14:11
with Pastor John. Biblical Principles
14:13
for Daily Living. And I want to bless
14:16
you in Jesus name.
