Welcome to Insights with Pastor John.

Today we're going to be looking at the
0:06
power of the name of Jesus.
0:08
I want to read our biblical text which
0:10
is Philippians 2:9-11.
0:12
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted
0:15
him and given him a name which is above
0:17
every name. That at the name of Jesus
0:19
every knee should bow of things in
0:22
heaven and things in earth and things
0:24
under the earth. and that every tongue
0:26
should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord
0:28
to the glory of God the Father. Heavenly
0:31
Father, we thank you and praise you for
0:33
this opportunity, Lord, to look in your
0:35
word. Help us, God, to make this
0:39
part of our understanding of you and
0:42
what you've done for us. And Lord, we
0:44
just careful to give you all the praise
0:46
and the glory in Jesus' name. Amen. So
0:50
names matter to us. When someone hears
0:52
your name, it brings memories, thoughts,
0:55
and even emotions. For example, hearing
0:58
the name of a family member brings
0:59
warmth to our hearts. Hearing the name
1:02
of a person who wronged us might stir
1:04
pain. In our culture, names carry
1:07
reputations, authority, and sometimes
1:09
even fear. Yet, among all the names in
1:12
history, names of kings, leaders,
1:15
inventors, and heroes, there is one name
1:18
above every name. It is a name that
1:20
heaven rever, hell fears and believers
1:23
cherish. That name is Jesus. His name is
1:27
not merely a label, but it represents
1:29
his person, his power, and his presence.
1:33
It is the one thing that we if you truly
1:37
understand the power of the name of
1:39
Jesus, you begin to understand who you
1:42
are in Christ because the things we do,
1:44
we do in his name. And that's the point.
1:47
what you're doing has to be done in his
1:50
name. And if you are, then you're
1:52
working under his authority. And that's
1:55
one of the things that we fail to uh
1:58
truly comprehend and grasp is the fact
2:02
that
2:04
when we do things as Christians, when we
2:06
pray for other people and when we say in
2:09
the name of Jesus, that comes with it a
2:12
certain amount of authority and power
2:14
that Jesus granted to us. He gave us
2:17
permission to use his power in his name
2:20
for other people. And we need to realize
2:24
just how powerful that is because that
2:27
um
2:29
the Apostle Paul wrote Philippians from
2:32
prison
2:34
and his heart overflowed with Joe in
2:36
chapter 2. He he looks at Christ's
2:38
humility. Though he was equal with God,
2:41
he did not cling to his status, but
2:43
humbled himself, taking the form of a
2:45
servant. In other words, becoming a man,
2:49
he obeyed it un even unto death, even
2:52
the shameful death of the cross. Because
2:54
of this obedience, God exalted him,
2:56
giving him a name above every name. In
2:59
Jewish culture, names uh are deeply
3:03
significant, often carrying meaning
3:05
about character and destiny. Thus, when
3:08
scripture says God gave Jesus a name
3:10
above every name, it reveals more than a
3:13
title. It declares his supreme authority
3:16
over heaven, earth, and hell. For the
3:18
early church, the name of Jesus was
3:20
central. In Acts, the apostles healed
3:23
the sick. They cast out demons. They
3:25
preached salvation in his name. To them,
3:29
the name of Jesus was not ritualistic,
3:31
but it was relational and powerful. And
3:34
then when you realize just what God has
3:36
done for you through giving you his
3:39
authority to use his name to do the
3:43
things he's called you to do, you begin
3:44
to walk in a place of a different uh
3:47
attitude and point of view of wait a
3:49
minute. These things are happening
3:51
because God said they would if I
3:54
believed.
3:56
Uh in many places around the world,
3:58
names command respect. Uh,
4:01
some fear the names of dictators. Some
4:03
honor the names of kings or presidents.
4:06
Others rever the names of inventors,
4:08
philosophers, or celebrities. Yet, none
4:10
of those names can save a soul. They
4:14
can't heal a body. They can't or
4:16
guarantee eternal life. Only one name
4:19
carries that power, the name of Jesus.
4:21
And so, what we're going to do today is
4:23
we're going to explore three truths
4:24
about his name. The fact that number
4:27
one, the name of Jesus saves. The name
4:30
of Jesus heals and the name of Jesus
4:33
reigns supreme.
4:35
So
4:37
when we take a look at this, how is it
4:39
that the name of Jesus saves? Acts 4:12,
4:42
it says, "Neither is there salvation in
4:45
any other, for there is none other name
4:47
under heaven given among men whereby we
4:50
must be saved." Peter spoke these words
4:53
after healing the lame man at the temple
4:55
gate. When questioned by the
4:57
authorities, Peter boldly declared that
4:59
salvation was found only in Jesus. His
5:02
name embodies his saving work, his life,
5:06
death, and resurrection. The Bible makes
5:08
it clear, salvation is not found in good
5:10
works, religion, or philosophy. It is
5:13
found in a person. Romans 10:13 says,
5:17
"For whosoever shall call upon the name
5:19
of the Lord shall be saved."
5:21
This means anyone regardless of
5:24
background, sin, or status can find
5:26
salvation by calling on his name. And u
5:30
but I want to point something out here.
5:33
There's a difference between head
5:36
knowledge and heart knowledge.
5:38
In other words, head knowledge says,
5:40
"Well, yeah, I know who Jesus is. I've
5:42
heard all the stories. I know he's that
5:45
he he went to the cross and died and he
5:47
was buried for three days and he rose
5:49
from the dead." So therefore, I believe
5:52
in Jesus.
5:54
That doesn't get you saved unless it's
5:57
an act of faith. It has to come from the
5:59
heart. And uh he said,
6:04
"If you confess with your mouth
6:07
and believe with your heart
6:09
that God has raised Jesus from the dead,
6:12
thou shalt be saved." It takes that act
6:15
of belief by faith. It's by faith we are
6:18
saved and not by works lest any man
6:21
should boast.
6:23
So we have to we have to wrap our mind
6:26
around this fact that it's not just
6:29
saying his name that gets you saved. You
6:32
have to believe that his name has the
6:35
power to save you for it to do what you
6:39
want it to do.
6:41
Picture a drowning man in deep waters.
6:43
He can't save himself. His only hope is
6:45
to cry out for help. the lifeguard
6:47
responds. He throws he pulls him from
6:50
danger and gives him life again. That's
6:51
what happens spiritually when we call on
6:54
the name of Jesus. Were rescued from sin
6:56
and pulled from death and given eternal
6:58
life. But if if you've never called on
7:02
his name for salvation, today is the day
7:04
of salvation. It's not about how good
7:06
you are, but about whom you call upon.
7:08
And that's the thing that a lot of
7:10
people you you'll hear them say this,
7:12
"Well, if I could just get good enough."
7:14
Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but
7:16
you're never going to get good enough.
7:18
You're never going to be good enough.
7:20
You are your salvation is an act of
7:24
God's grace.
7:26
God did it. He put He provided what was
7:29
needed for you to get saved. And that's
7:31
the point. There's nothing you can do of
7:34
your own, of your own power, in your own
7:36
way that's going to get you saved. You
7:39
have to have Jesus to be saved.
7:49
So what else happens but through the
7:51
power of Jesus in Jesus's name? Well, in
7:55
Jesus's name, healing takes place. Acts
7:59
3:6, it records Peter's words to the
8:01
lame man. It says, "Silver and gold have
8:03
I none, but such as I have give I thee.
8:06
In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,
8:08
rise up and walk." At that moment, the
8:11
man was healed. Not by Peter's ability,
8:13
but by Jesus's authority. And the
8:16
gospels show us this truth. Mark 16:17
8:19
and 18 is scripture that I tell people
8:21
all the time. Realize who you are in
8:24
Christ. Jesus promised, "And these signs
8:27
shall follow them that believe. In my
8:29
name, they shall cast out devils. They
8:31
shall lay hands on the sick and they
8:33
shall recover." Healing is not always
8:35
instant, and not every prayer results in
8:37
physical healing. But the power of his
8:40
name is real. It brings hope, comfort,
8:43
and restoration. Sometimes physically,
8:46
always spiritually.
8:49
Mark 16:17 18.
8:52
Remember this. Live it. Live it out.
8:55
Walk it out. And these signs shall
8:58
follow them that believe. In my name
9:01
shall they cast out devils, and they
9:03
shall lay hands on the sick, and they
9:05
shall recover.
9:07
Think of a child crying in the night
9:08
from fear. When the mother whispers the
9:11
name Jesus in prayer, peace settles over
9:14
the child. The name of Jesus still
9:16
drives away fear, sickness, and
9:18
oppression even to today. If you've ever
9:20
been in a situation where you were
9:22
overwhelmed by anxiety, and you begin to
9:24
cry out to God. You begin to call out
9:27
Jesus' name and you're asking Jesus,
9:29
"Please, I need peace. Give me
9:32
something. I need help." And that calm
9:35
reassurance comes because you could feel
9:38
the presence of Christ. Then you
9:40
understand
9:43
the power of Jesus' name when it comes
9:45
to heal.
9:47
Philippians 2:10-11 declares that the
9:50
name of Jesus, at the name of Jesus,
9:52
every knee should bow of things in
9:55
heaven, the things in earth, and things
9:57
under the earth, and that every tongue
9:59
should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord
10:01
to the glory of God the Father. His name
10:04
is exalted above every power, whether
10:08
angels, demons, rulers, or nations. All
10:12
must bow before him. There is nothing
10:14
stronger than the power of Christ and in
10:17
the name of Jesus. Revelations 19:16, it
10:20
portrays him as the returning king. And
10:23
he hath on his vesture and on his thigh
10:25
a name written, King of Kings and Lord
10:27
of Lords. Earthly rulers come and go,
10:30
but Jesus's reign is eternal.
10:34
And we need to understand that empires
10:37
rise and fall. Rome, Babylon, Egypt, but
10:39
the kingdom of Jesus Christ still stand.
10:41
His reign is unshakable. It's
10:43
everlasting.
10:44
As believers, we're not victims of the
10:46
world's chaos,
10:49
but we're citizens of Christ's eternal
10:51
kingdom. So live with confidence,
10:54
knowing your king reigns supreme. Jesus
10:57
said, "I will never leave you or forsake
10:59
you." He said that he would stick to
11:02
you. He will stick closer to you than
11:03
than a brother. He is the King of Kings,
11:07
the Lord of Lords. He rules over
11:09
everything.
11:12
So the name of Jesus is not just a
11:15
sound. It is salvation. It's healing.
11:17
It's authority. It's the sweetest name
11:19
on earth and the most powerful name in
11:21
heaven. If you have never trusted him,
11:24
call on his name today. If you're
11:25
burdened, whisper his name in prayer. If
11:28
you're fearful, remember his name reigns
11:30
over all. One day every knee will bow
11:33
and every tongue will confess that Jesus
11:35
Christ is Lord. So why not bow now
11:39
willingly in worship and surrender?
11:42
So
11:45
I want there's some questions I want you
11:47
to think about this coming week. The
11:49
first one is have I personally called
11:51
upon the name of Jesus for salvation.
11:54
How can I practice praying in Jesus's
11:57
name with greater faith? In what area of
12:00
my life do I need to trust the authority
12:02
of his name? How can I share the power
12:06
of Jesus' name with others this week?
12:09
And do I live daily as a citizen of his
12:12
eternal kingdom?
12:20
Let's pray. Heavenly Father, we thank
12:21
you for the gift of thy son and the
12:23
power of his name. Lord Jesus, at your
12:26
name we find salvation. At your name,
12:28
chains are broken and at your name
12:30
sickness flee. Teach us to call upon
12:32
your name with faith and boldness. May
12:34
we walk in the authority you've given
12:36
us. Declare to the world that you are
12:38
Lord. Strengthen the weary, heal the
12:41
sick, and save the lost today through
12:42
your mighty name. In Jesus name we pray.
12:45
Amen. Remember who you are. Remember he
12:48
gave you the authority to use his name.
12:51
Remember that you can do all things
12:53
through Christ who strengthens you and
12:55
that no uh weapon formed against you
12:58
shall prosper. Why? Because Jesus gave
13:01
you his name. You are not just a lost
13:06
soul. You are someone that God came and
13:09
saved and determined that you had
13:12
purpose. That you had a reason for
13:15
being. That you could take his name and
13:18
go and do things that you never thought
13:21
possible.
13:24
Jesus loves you. He has a wonderful plan
13:27
for your life. He never said it would be
13:30
easy, but he definitely said it would be
13:32
worth doing. So, I want you to keep that
13:34
in mind this week as you make your way.
13:36
Look for ways to look at uh what Christ
13:41
has done for you. Find ways to share
13:45
your testimony. I've said this many
13:47
times and I'll probably say it until I
13:49
take my last breath on this earth.
13:53
Going to church is necessary. You need
13:55
to go to church. You need fellowship
13:56
with other believers. But that's not
13:59
your testimony. Your testimony takes
14:01
place outside of church. When you're out
14:04
with people in the world, when they see
14:06
Jesus operating in your life, you become
14:10
the living church. And I tell people all
14:14
the time,
14:16
go live out your testimony. Go be the
14:19
church. Take Jesus's name with you as
14:23
you go so that people you meet's lives
14:26
are changed by the power in Jesus' name.
14:29
I'll see you guys next week. You have a
14:31
great week.
