Phoenix, United States - August 31, 2026 08/30/2026 08:30 pm GMT-0700 PHOENIX, Ariz. – The National Weather Service issued severe thunderstorm warnings for Pinal and Maricopa counties starting around 8:30 Sunday night, with heavy rainfall and radar indications of up to 60 mph wind gusts in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Dozens of lightning strikes struck the area, causing several small fires, including a palm tree that caught fire after being struck by lightning in the 6900 block of West Garfield Street, which was quickly extinguished by firefighters. Heavy rainfall caused partial flooding across various streets in Phoenix, including the intersection of 91st Avenue and Camelback Road.
