Los Angeles, United States - August 08, 2026 08/08/2026 04:36 pm GMT-0700 SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Firefighters battled the Tasha Fire in the Newhall Pass Saturday afternoon as sheriff’s deputies investigated whether the blaze may have been intentionally set. The Tasha Fire was first reported at approximately 4:36 p.m. along Sierra Highway, south of Needham Ranch Parkway, sending flames through brush in the Newhall Pass. According to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department crime broadcast, deputies were searching for a silver or gray Mercedes sedan driven by a Hispanic man believed to be in his 20s. The man was described by authorities as a person of interest in connection with the start of the fire near Sierra Highway and Clampitt Road. Authorities have not confirmed that the Tasha Fire was intentionally set, and no arrests have been announced. Firefighters remained actively engaged with the flames as crews worked to contain the blaze. Sierra Highway remained closed through the Newhall Pass while firefighters operated in the area and deputies investigated the circumstances surrounding the fire. The blaze was reported to be 10 acres as of 6 p.m. The cause of the Tasha Fire remains under investigation.
