US, Los Angeles: Castaic Brush Fire Shuts Down Interstate 5.

Los Angeles, United States - August 01, 2026 08/01/2026 02:32 am GMT-0700 CASTAIC, Calif. – A two-acre brush fire forced the temporary closure of all lanes of Interstate 5 through Castaic this morning, bringing traffic in both directions to a standstill. The fire was first reported shortly after 2:30 a.m. near the freeway’s lower crossover in the 32100 block of Castaic Road. The California Highway Patrol stopped all northbound and southbound traffic on Interstate 5 for approximately 30 to 40 minutes while firefighters gained access to the blaze and extinguished the first-alarm fire. Firefighters stopped the forward progress of the fire at approximately two acres shortly before 3 a.m., allowing crews to reopen the freeway once it was safe to do so. No injuries or damage to nearby structures were immediately reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
