The fire was first reported on Wednesday morning near Floriston, California, about nine miles northeast of Truckee. Footage filmed that day showed thick smoke rising from wooded hills beside the highway and a fire engine at the roadside. Crews focused on the northern flank toward Reno, where containment lines remained incomplete or needed reinforcement. Two spot fires were identified to the north. CAL FIRE said the highway remained closed because of safety risks, including debris potentially rolling onto the road. Caltrans and fire personnel were assessing conditions before reopening it.
