Ooltewah, United States - June 06, 2026 A vehicle carrying fireworks caught fire on northbound Interstate 75 just beyond the Ooltewah exit on Saturday evening, June 6, 2026, forcing the complete closure of the highway. The blaze rapidly intensified as fireworks inside the vehicle began exploding and shooting in multiple directions. Fiery projectiles crossed lanes of traffic, creating a dangerous situation for motorists on the interstate. Firefighters, Tri-Comm personnel, and law enforcement responded to the scene. Traffic was stopped in both directions while crews worked to extinguish the fire and protect drivers from the ongoing explosions. Video from the scene shows a pickup truck or trailer engulfed in bright orange flames, with thick gray smoke rising into the evening sky. Fireworks continuously ignited inside the burning vehicle, sending sparks and bursts of light across the roadway as firefighters directed hoses at the blaze. Emergency vehicles remained on scene with flashing lights as traffic backed up along the interstate. Water was transported to the location to support firefighting operations. No injuries were reported during the incident. The driver was later cited for hazardous materials violations. Crews remained at the scene until the fire was extinguished and the roadway was cleared, allowing normal traffic flow to resume.
