New York, United States - April 30, 2026 Body camera footage shows NYPD officers responding to a 911 call about a domestic dispute involving a knife at a three-family home on 130th Street in South Ozone Park, Queens, shortly before 3 a.m. on April 30, 2026, when a sudden explosion tore through the building. The footage captures officers approaching the front door when a powerful gas-fuelled blast erupts without warning. The explosion throws officers to the ground, with some hurled into a metal gate as a flash of light, smoke, and debris fills the scene. Despite being injured and knocked down, the officers quickly regain their footing and move back toward the burning structure. Inside the smoke-filled and collapsing building, officers are seen pulling out children and adults who are crying and disoriented as flames spread through the interior. The explosion is linked to a 50-year-old suspect who had reportedly broken into his estranged wife’s home while intoxicated and carrying trash bags believed to contain accelerants. His body was later recovered from the rubble. Eight officers were treated for minor burns, while one required stitches for a head injury. The blast developed into a five-alarm fire, damaging multiple nearby homes and forcing more than a dozen residents to leave their homes. Authorities said the officers’ response prevented further loss of life in a rapidly escalating and highly dangerous situation.
