Los Angeles, United States - July 06, 2026 07/06/2026 04:07 pm GMT-0700 CASTAIC, Calif. – The Martin Fire broke out Monday afternoon after a big rig transporting multiple vehicles caught fire along the northbound Interstate 5 just north of Templin Highway. The incident was first reported at approximately 4:07 p.m. when the commercial truck became engulfed in flames. As the fire intensified, it spread from the burning vehicle into the surrounding dry brush, where warm temperatures and dry vegetation allowed the fire to grow rapidly. Thick smoke was visible for miles as flames advanced through the vegetation toward a nearby mobile home park. A large response from firefighters was quickly dispatched, with both ground crews and multiple aircraft working to slow the fire's spread. Fire engines were strategically positioned around the threatened community while hand crews and bulldozers worked to establish containment lines. Air tankers and helicopters made repeated water and retardant drops to protect nearby homes and stop the fire's advance. Firefighters successfully stopped the forward progress of the Martin Fire before it reached the mobile home park, preventing any structures from being damaged. Crews remained on scene into the evening, continuing suppression efforts, extinguishing hotspots, and strengthening containment lines as they worked toward full containment. The burning big rig was destroyed by the fire, along with the vehicles it was transporting. No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the initial commercial vehicle fire remains under investigation.
