US, Los Angeles: Malibu Crews Battle Hot Spots Amid Santa Ana Winds Part 2.
Oct 16, 2026
Los Angeles, United States - October 16, 2026 10/15/2026 08:03 pm GMT-0700 MALIBU, Calif. – A brush fire near Camp Kilpatrick in Malibu has expanded to 101.5 acres, prompting evacuation orders and warnings as Santa Ana winds exacerbate the situation. Firefighters are countering the Bryson Fire with aerial support, focusing on preventing embers from crossing the 800 block of Encinal Canyon Road. The fire was initially reported as a half-acre vegetation blaze Thursday afternoon and was mapped at 101.5 acres by FIRIS OES Intel 24. With conditions intensifying, incident command raised a second alarm response due to escalating winds. The National Weather Service has issued red flag warnings for Los Angeles and Ventura counties, predicting strong east-northeast winds, low humidity, and high temperatures. Such conditions increase the likelihood of rapid wildfire spread. The strongest winds, reaching gusts between 50 to 70 mph, are anticipated to peak from Thursday through Friday afternoon in the San Gabriel and Santa Susana mountains. Santa Ana winds, known for transporting warm, dry air inland toward the coast, can hinder firefighting efforts by pushing flames and carrying burning embers beyond fire lines. Helicopter coordinators reported heightened fire activity throughout this afternoon as the brush fire continued to spread.
