US, Bakersfield: Bakersfield 2nd Alarm Vegetation Fire Engulfs Multiple Structures.

Bakersfield, United States - August 13, 2026 08/13/2026 04:24 pm GMT-0700 BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – A second-alarm vegetation fire threatened multiple structures before firefighters stopped its forward progress this evening. The fire was initially estimated at 2 to 3 acres and was threatening structures. As the fire spread into an area containing multiple structures, the Kern County Fire Department upgraded the response to a second alarm and requested aircraft. Two air tankers and two water-dropping helicopters responded as ground crews worked the fire. Multiple structures appeared to be burning within the residential area, while another portion of the fire burned on Chevron-owned land. Multiple explosions were heard as firefighters battled the flames. Around 5:28 p.m., firefighters stopped the forward progress of the fire and contained it. It is unclear if anyone was injured. The Kern County Fire Department, Bakersfield Fire Department, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, and an additional agency helicopter responded.
