Los Angeles, United States - August 15, 2026 08/14/2026 07:03 pm GMT-0700 VALENCIA, SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – A brush fire burning near Interstate 5 in Valencia was stopped at approximately one acre this evening after Los Angeles County firefighters attacked the blaze from the air and ground. The Damon Fire was first reported at approximately 7:03 p.m. near the intersection of Newhall Ranch Road and Interstate 5, west of Vanderbilt Way. Firefighters arrived to find flames burning in light brush and grass, prompting a response that included ground crews, camp crews and multiple helicopters. Los Angeles County Fire Department Copters 21 and 22, both Sikorsky S-70i Firehawk helicopters, landed near the fire and balanced on their two front wheels along a ridgeline while dropping off Camp Crews 8-1 and 9-1. After deploying the crews, both helicopters returned to the air and made multiple 1,000-gallon water drops on the flames as firefighters worked to surround the blaze. Initially estimated at between one and two acres, incident commanders reported the fire had the potential to grow to approximately 10 acres within an hour. No structures or other values were considered threatened. By approximately 7:31 p.m., firefighters had stopped the forward progress of the Damon Fire at approximately one acre. No injuries were immediately reported. The cause of the fire was not immediately known, but it did occur shortly after a power outage and surge was reported in the nearby Castaic community.
