Los Angeles, United States - October 15, 2026 10/15/2026 04:40 pm GMT-0700 MALIBU, Calif. – A brush fire in Malibu near Camp Kilpatrick grew to 101.5 acres as of 8:50 p.m., prompting an evacuation order and warnings as a powerful Santa Ana wind event brought dangerous fire weather to Southern California. Video from Key News Network shows firefighters battling the flames from the air, attempting to keep embers from crossing the 800 block of Encinal Canyon Road, near Camp Kilpatrick. The Bryson Fire was mapped at 101.5 acres by FIRIS OES Intel 24, according to a 6:34 p.m. Watch Duty update. First-arriving firefighters reported a half-acre vegetation fire at 4:51 p.m. The blaze developed as moderate to strong east-northeast winds, low humidity, and hot temperatures raised the threat of rapidly spreading wildfires. The National Weather Service issued red flag warnings for parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties through 8 p.m. Saturday, warning that new ignitions could produce extreme fire behavior and growth. The strongest winds were forecast from Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon. Gusts of 50 to 70 mph were possible in the San Gabriel and Santa Susana mountains. Santa Ana winds carry warm, dry air from inland areas toward the coast. Their gusty nature can complicate firefighting, pushing flames and carrying burning embers ahead of a fire’s main edge. On the Bryson Fire, helicopter coordinators repeatedly reported spotting ahead of the blaze and increasing fire activity as it expanded this afternoon. Incident command requested a second alarm at 5:35 p.m. A first-alarm response from the Ventura County Fire Department was also requested.
